    The Knoll was full of original, eccentric Victorian-style features and was a great place to stay. The room was small but comfortable, and the whole house was very warm and welcoming. Barry was a great host and left me to my own thing when needed, whilst also being available to help and advise when necessary. I was out most of the time when visitin... what people say » g, and was mostly in the hotel just in the late evenings. - The guesthouse although old added to the ambience of the building. The proprietor could not have been more friendly, courteous and helpful he was a lovely man. The rooms were clean and all you needed for your stay. The breakfast perfect again excellent value and you couldnt have got better in a first class hotel. Will stay there again should I have to stay in Newport.

    What a briiliant place! The staff were great, the room was lovely, we stayed in one of the outside rooms - tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We had arranged to eat at the Hardwick (a birthday treat for me - going to Stephen Terrys restaurant), the hotel arranged a taxi for us, with no fuss.     A lovely cosy place to stay with a very homely warm feel to it with personal touches to the place here and there , very friendly staff soft comfy beds ,excellent breakfast !! the evening grill or italian is amazing ,i decided to try the 16oz rump steak which came exactly as i d asked it to be cooked with a more than generous portion of salad chips... what people say » mushrooms onion rings peas etc etc couldn t finish it all !! the outside of the hotel is very well maintained and has a beautiful front garden with - From the moment we arrived you made to feel at "home" Very friendly atmosphere. The service by the staff and owners made you feel "nothing was too much trouble" You are spoilt for choice for the selection of food from the menu's. The whole package is good value for money. You are made to feel special by owners and staff members. Such a relaxing atmosphere one nights stay make you feel you have been there a week.     The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, Paul the Bar Supervisor particularly going the extra yard on more than one occasion. The huge beds are also fantastic and hugely comfortable. This was our second stay as my partner's Mother suffered a serious illness recently and we are sure that over the coming weeks, during her (hopeful) full recover... what people say » y, we will look to stay many more times. - rooms very comfortable, staff very helpful.     I liked pretty much everything about this hotel. The period features, the cast iron radiators, the polished stone floors and grand hallway. The tiling in the bar area is beautiful, it was like stepping back in time to c1940, 'Goodnight Sweat Heart', wwii romance, the days of flat caps and Woodbines I just loved it and would stay again.     First impressions count!!!When we walked down to our room the corrider area was so fresh not stale like so many places. Likewise in the room. Staff very helpful. Both of us slept like a log . The bed was so comfortable equal to our Tempour bed. Very well presented breakfast. Lovely to see such a choice of fruit nuts etc and plain yoghurts and cere... what people say » als. Also cooked breakfast good. Thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay. - Staff were very helpful & friendly,clean throughout,nicely decorated room, comfy bed, good choice for breakfast & I thought the bathroom dbl use door was a fab idea :-) Will be back to stay again, especially as my sister lives just round the corner :-) Also love the late check out & long breakfast times.

    All the staff were very friendly, and helpful. We happened to mention we were on the last few days of our honeymoon and they had a lovely bottle of wine and 2 glasses put in our room how very thoughtful. Pub attached to inn was excellent really enjoyed the breakfast - Really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Full breakfast in the morning was an amazing end to a great nights stay.

    The staff went out of their way to help us - the gentleman on Reception was extremely friendly and did everything he could to ensure our stay (with a 2yr old) was a comfortable one. I stay in many hotels and, surprisingly, don't often come across friendly staff.     The receptionists were really nice and the receptionist who was there in the evening when we arrived (in the evening, 11/10/2013) was very-very nice and helpful. I want to thank her for that.     The hotel is fantastic as is its very lovely lady owner. Me and my partner booked in for a weekend for a wedding and had a wonderful break. The rooms are very comfortable and decorated with beautiful furniture. We stayed in a room with a separate bathroom, the style is very typical of a building of its age and so the shower being part of a old fa... what people say » shioned bath was more of a quirk than a hindrance. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were a pleasure to chat to. There was a band playing on the - I loved the old architecture on the house, and how it had been refurbished so that it was clean and comfortable for modern users. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the toilet/bathroom was quaint, comfortable, and functional. I liked how close to the castle, high street, and tourist information area it was. I liked how the owner was so relaxed, and always cheerful. The breakfasts could be light (which we preferred) or cooked, and I appreciated the flexibility. I also liked the live music on
