Great location for the Playhouse Theatre and surrounding restaurants/bars. Overall I would recommend the Calton Apartments.   We stayed at 2 bedroomed apartment at 7 Johnson terrace! Location, location, location - castle, royal mile & grassmarket on you door step! In easy reach of local bars & restaurants plus sightseeing bus stop 2 minute walk away! The apartment itself was lovely! Relaxing living room & comfy beds! Very thoughtful bottle of wine left for u... what people say » s! Derek was lovely and also allowed us to leave our luggage at the office round the corner til we got our train home! Would definitely recommend for - We stayed in apartment 11 on the third floor. The view was incredible of St. Giles Cathedral. The location superb two blocks from the castle. Many restaurants and shops on the royal mile. Many tourists but inside the apartment calm and relaxing. A bit of noise at night as shops and restaurants were cleaning up and ghost tours ending but by 11pm all went quiet until about 7am. We enjoyed our stay as it was close to everything including Waverly train station.

I arrived after breakfast was served but Davy kindly made me an omelet, toast, and tea. Then he showed me the room that was intended to be mine, talking me through the amenities. The bed was clean and super comfortable, - I liked everything from the beginning as I was met at the door with a handshake and a nice hello. Mr. Lapping is a fine cook so there's no need to go anywhere for breakfast. He answered my thousand questions about the area with patience and great knowledge. The guest house is located in a somewhat quieter part of Edinburgh that I think is a perfect location.
