    This spectacularly appointed building is set slightly above the village of Grasmere. Our welcome was warm and genuine. The room was basic, (what we expected), but suited the purpose of a clean cosy place to stay at the end of an adventurous day. The breakfast was fantastic, as were the packed lunches and evening meals. The location is just sublime... what people say » and peaceful. We will be going back again. - We travelled with a small child and were made to feel very welcome, with the travel cot set up for us on arrival. The hostel is a lovely old building in a stunning setting and a two-minute walk from the nice shops and cafes in the village. We booked dinner at short notice and were very pleased with the quality and price of the food. I can't fault anything!

    A gem of a B&B. Large family room with a very smart bathroom and the best power shower I've ever used. Beautifully decorated with great attention to detail, spotless and quiet. Dave is charming, friendly and very welcoming. His knowledge of walks in the area is really useful - he has climbed every hill from every angle and can offer good advic... what people say » e on where to go to get away from the hoards. The breakfast was huge, hearty and freshly cooked. We shall definitely return. - The Twin room we stayed was spacious, clean and warm especially large shower room! The breakfast was cooked to perfection especially mushrooms, tomatoes :) David and Angie made us feel welcome and were very helpful when needed. Thank David told us the forecast everyday in order to help us how to plan our day if it rains .... Do enjoy the view from High sweden Bridge ! And Derenwater at Keswick !!! Thank you for making us feel at home !!!

    This little guest house, has been the best to date, on regular stays in the Ambleside area, what impressed us most was the cleanliness of the room we where in, and the en-suit was immaculate, the room was classed as a superior room, and was amply sized, with a king sized bed with a hugh flat screen Sony TV, loved the working sash windows, facing... what people say » the old Police Station. We stayed 2 nights celebrating my partners 40th, no faults at all, and a warm welcome from Lynne and Alan, the proprietors. - Very good guesthouse with very friendly and efficient staff. The double room with en-suite (£70 per night B&B) was very good value, well appointed and was very clean with high levels of local information. The breakfast was extensive with cereal, fruit juice, fresh fruit, yoghurt, full English breakfast with tea/coffee and toast. Alan who co owns Melrose house with his wife Lynn could not have been more helpful. A definite recommendation for Melrose House and will tell family and friends.

    Very friendly landlord and staff. Location right in centre of Ambleside. Excellent food and beers. Parking for guests is a bonus in a busy town centre. Whole area is picturesque and a great location for lake tours. This is a busy pub and hotel and staff were on top of their game.     We booked a 4-poster with Jacuzzi for a last-minute weekend break. We were not disappointed. Trevor, the owner made us feel really welcome, showed us around the property and took us up to our top floor spacious en-suite room. This room had beautiful views over the church grounds, park and the hills beyond. On-site parking was available for all gue... what people say » sts. The buffet style breakfast was extremely varied and plentiful and the breakfast room was a good size and very comfortable. Overall an excellent e - Midweek rates in November were very good. Conveniently located hotel near the centre with plenty of off-street parking, which a lot of places in Ambleside do not have. The bedroom was not large but adequate, the kingsize bed being comfortable. Large bathroom with spa bath. Cold buffet breakfast was extensive and very good. Pleasant helpful efficient staff.

    Lacet House is in a great location, very close, literally to the town centre of Ambleside. The host Catherine made my 83 year old mother and I very welcome. We received old fashioned hospitality. It is a small guest house so it feels like bringing your lounge room! We booked 6 months ahead from Australia ans got a very competitive rate. Very good ... what people say » value accommodation. The guest house also has some parking fro guests, a big plus generally in England. - Such a lovely place to stay where the owners were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. They went above and beyond expectations! Great location right in the middle of Ambleside. Modern well presented rooms with very comfortable beds! We had a great choice of breakfasts and they even have parking spaces! ( rare in Ambleside). We will definitely be returning for another visit! Thanks for a lovely time. Monica, Simon & kids

    Beautiful room, comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. Very friendly and helpful hosts with good recommendations if you don't know Ambleside very well. Very accommodating when we asked for an early breakfast as heading out on an early outing, we then had the cooked breakfast the following morning and it was the best meal we had in Ambleside all w... what people say » eekend! A very nice, cosy, welcoming place to return to after a wet, soggy day on the fells. - We booked two rooms as we visited with family from overseas. The hosts were extremely friendly and accommodatingThey provided us with many tips on the area. My parents liked the place so much they went back to stay again a few days later.     Check in was quick and we were shown our room and its features explained. Room was at back of hotel but spotlessly clean and comfortable. Decor was modern and my girlfriend impressed with Sanderson wallpaper, curtains etc. Water in shower was hot (a bath would have been nice to relax in after a days walk, but you can't have everything).     The room was quirky inasmuch that it was on two levels with a beautiful refurbished bathroom, a dressing table area and wardrobe, then up four stairs to the bedroom and sitting area. Nothing was lacking in facilities. THe restaurant and bar areas were always busy and popular with walkers and visitors to the area. I shall definitely stay at Wateredg - The Wateredge Inn is in a wonderful location right on the lake. The views out to the boats bobbing on the lake were lovely. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable as was the bathroom. The inns lounge and dining areas were very nice, with again a beautiful outlook. The two Scottish sisters who waited on us for breakfast were lovely and friendly as was Ryan the bar man. The countryside around Ambleside was really beautiful and well worth a longer visit.
