The location of La Calcina is fantastic - Overlooking the Giudecca canal, in a quiet neighbourhood, watertaxi stop on your doorstep and within an easy walking distance of St Marks Square. The restaurant food for lunch and dinner is fabulous and very good value for guests - Eating on the pontoon, especially at breakfast time really was wonderful. The staff were exremely friendly and helpful. The reception was open on a 24hr basis and so arriving at night was no problem. The room was comfortable and very clean and the bathroom brand new. The staff could not do enough for us and treated us like silk worms. Nothing was a problem. Directions, hints, tips and must see all explained thoroughly. I was nervous about getting from the airport on our own, but the directions were very clear and the hotel easy to find. The location was perfect between the Rialto and St Marco square-we couldn't have picked better! Very impressed with how friendly the staff are and how welcomed we felt. The staff there was attentive and extremely helpful. They carried our bags up the stairs (yes, stairs, no elevator), but what do you expect for a smaller and quiet little nest out in the heart of Venice. Wifi is free and its fast!!!

The apartment is huge and the owner was so friendly and helpful. The apartment is marketed for 4 people but could easily sleep 6.

We booked Albergo Bonvecchiati but were transferred to the sister Hotel 1 min away Palazzo Bonvecchiati. This Hotel is a 4 star but was a 5 star by our standards. The staff were the best we've ever met, the hotel is brand new and modern, so beautiful and very well located. Albergo Bonvecchiati is more antique looking and seems very nice as well but

Very comfortable beds with lights that don't disturb others. Quite cheap, good breakfast for additional price.
It was a half-populated 16 person dorm, but it was comfortable to stay there.
It is on a separate island from the city center, but public transport is working all the night so it's not a problem.
