Lucca Hotels

We were recommended to visit Lucca by a family member. We could not get into the hotel they recommended. We are certainly pleased about that. We stayed at the Residenza Dell'Alba and were delighted. The rooms are large, airy, spotlessly clean and because it is across the road from the main hotel they supply tea and coffee making facilities. Every member of staff that we met were able to speak english, our italian is patchy. The buffet breakfast is superb, a large choice of hot and cold food. T - Richard

Beautiful hotel, room really unusual with lovely paintings all round the walls, this continued into the bathroom. Fantastic location right in the heart of Lucca and just steps away from the main shopping street. The hotel is on a very quiet road and we got such a good nights sleep. Parking cost us 15 euros which is not as expensive as Florence but still pricey. The streets of Lucca are very narrow and were a little difficult to drive down! We spent 2 nights at Villa Marta as part of a whirlwind road trip to Italy for a wedding. It was by far the nicest place we stayed. The countryside around Lucca is not as stunningly pretty as further south in Tuscany (no rolling hills or terraced fields), but that really didn't matter because Villa Marta was just wonderful. My wife and I stayed 5 days (15th -20th July) at the Celide with Page and Moy to go to the Puccini Festival. We found the Celide staff very helpful, knowledgeable about Lucca and very friendly. Our room on the second floor was very comfortable and had recently been refurbished and the air conditioning worked a treat and an excellent breakfast was provided in a nice breakfast room on the ground floor. My wife and I stayed for 5 nights in this Lucca Hotel at the beginning of - October 2009. We were delighted with the hotel and facilities and will be glad to stay there again. The hotel is situated conveniently close to the railway station - just a 10 minute walk. It is also located in an ideal spot for exploring the interesting city of Lucca. We stayed at Grand Hotel Guinigi earlier this month, staying in a suite which had a pullout sofabed large enough for our two daughters (11 and 14). The suite was spacious and was air conditioned (a necessity if you are in Tuscany in August!!). At 395 euros for three nights, I found the rate to be quite reasonable. The reasonableness of the price might relate to the hotel's location. It is about 1-1.5 miles from the walls of the city of Lucca and thus is less convenient than many other lodging - Deborah

This is basically a glorified roadside motel, comfortable and clean, but that is about it. Small, clean and very tidy rooms. Ample, free parking on site. Breakfast adequate, but nothing special. A stroll to the old town center, but you can hire dilapidated bikes at reception for 5 euro or so a night, 10 euro for a whole day. Super-slow wired internet available at an extra charge. Stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed every minute. Everything was perfect. The B & B is spotless. Our room was large with 2 bedrooms, comfortable beds, personal computer, large terrace with table and chairs and large sun umberella. An excellent shower with plenty of hot water and fluffy bath towels . Manuela the hostess was charming and so helpful. She lives just across the road but served an excellent breakfast and fantastic capuccinos every morning. If you are an art lover you will love th - Roger

I find it hard to believe the previous reviews as we found the hotel simply charming. It is ideally situated -- 10 minutes from the centre of Lucca and 15 minutes from the centre of Pisa. The hotel is a gorgeous old country house set in a lush park. We arrived just too late for the rhododendrons and azaleas but they must be wonderful when in flower. I would say that gardening has been kept to a minimum and the grounds are a little overgrown, but I didn't find this detracted from the charm. And t - Michael

The hotel is situated just off the Piazza del Giglio, close to the walls of the town and with easy access to all the local shops,bars and restaurants,bus and train stations. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean and recently refurbished. Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Couldn't fault it and would definitely recommend. - Barbara
