Vienna Hotels

We (5 adults, including my 82 year old grandmother) stayed at the Mailbergerhof for a week, the end of February, beginning of March. We were very happy with the location, on a quiet walking street, walking distance from most toruist sites. The staff were wonderful, most at the reception desk spoke good English. They were very helpful, ordered us taxis to pick us up at the airport and to take us back. they also helped with phone calls. The rooms were quite large by European standards, clean, beds - Suzanne

Two friends and I stayed here for one night on an all too brief stop in Vienna on our way from Salzburg to Budapest. We had a wonderful stay. The hotel is lovely, the room was a good size and clean. The bathroom was superclean with nice fluffy towels. The included breakfast was nice, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. In fact they were almost too nice- two of us tried to "lose" our bicycle helmets which we were having trouble fitting in our suitcases and wanted to dump, - Allan

This is a very elegant hotel, at least for those of us who frequent 3 star hotels. We were given an upgrade to a large room on the 6th floor. As we did not stay in or see a standard room, I cannot comment on them. Our room was enormous as was the bath. It was very nicely furnished. The common areas are wonderful. There are crystal chandeliers, etched glass windows, a beautiful bar/sitting area, and the breakfast room is white linen, faux painted, high ceilinged, etc. The breakfast is the best we - John

For my first trip to Vienna, I was very happy with the Le Méridien. The location is perfect: on the Ring, opposite the Opera House, very close to the shops of Kärtnerstraße, and very near the Karlsplatz U-Bahn station, which provided direct access to the Messe Wien convention centre. The front lobby and the rooms are very chic and modern, but not so much so that you feel out of place if you're over 25! (As, for example, in a W Hotel.) Simple but very good hotel. Very clean apartment, simple breakfast, friendly staff. The location is good - 7 min. walking to the main subway station and 12 min. to downtown/Hofburg. Good value for the money. - Alexander

The room was lovely and the breakfast buffet was varied and delicious. The pianist playing in the lobby was delightful. The hotel is very well situated close to many interesting places, and very handy for the underground. The staff were uniformly polite and very helpful, and I was particularly charmed by Mr Kirienko, the manager, who was kind enough to let me practise my German. Of the three Austrian hotels, this was the family favorite. Old world charm. The staff is superb! They could not have been more helpful and make you feel as if you are their only guest. The ariconditioning functioned well enough for my very picky husband duing a very hot spell in Vienna. If you prefer big hotel chain accomodations, then this is not the place for you. But we absolutely loved it and think fondly of it as our flat in Vienna. - Ian

Mercure hotels are our favourite mid-range chain and this one didn't disappoint. The location is excellent, tucked away in a very quiet road but only around 10 minutes walk from the castle and museum quarter. Also very close to a subway station and tram line, plus walking from the hotel away from the city centre takes you into interesting and less touristy areas. Our room was large, though I think we struck lucky judging by the floor plan. It overlooked an internal courtyard also used for breakf - Stewart

The Schild has been newly renovated and offers very comfortable and large airconditioned rooms. It is located in the wine district of Vienna, has a beautiful garden and reasonable rates. The friendly and efficient staff made our 30th high school reunion a great success! - Roy

An excellent experience. Breakfast is ok and the restaurant personnel attentive (when you arrive in the restaurant, is not necessary to bag for a coffee, a waitress come and ask you immediately). The rooms are new, but the glass door at WC (not hermetic close) makes impossible to go there with work colleagues or your girl friend in the first 6 moths… J The place is quiet and near Prater and subway station (Messe Prater). - Richard

This hotel exceeded my expectations. The staff was excellent - very kind, extremely helpful. The hotel is situated on a quiet street. The Hofburg Palace and subway is close. To Stephansdom it's a 10 minute walk. The rooms are very clean and newly renovated. Spacious and light. The breakfust buffet is nice - fresh fruit, croissants, various kinds of rolls and bread, youghurts, cheeses and meats. I would recommend this hotel to everyone that values good service and great staff! I would d - Helen
