  The Greenporter is a retro styled hotel and works very well as exactly that. It doesn't pretend to be a luxury hotel and doesn't charge as one. We liked it a lot. It also has an extremely good chef, my wife rated one of the dishes she ate as the best she'd ever eaten, and she is not given to overstatement. It's very well situated to explore Greenp... what people say » ort, beautiful Shelter Island, and the lovely North Fork. I would comfortably recommend it to anyone, but would also suggest they don't use Hoppy's Cl - The room its own AC unit and fridge both essential during the hot spell. The cleaning staff were thorough and extremely helpful. Swimming pool small but nice and very quiet. The hotel is ideally located for walking into the town which has an abundance of nice bars and restaurants.

  The Carriage House sets across the street from the Econo Lodge where we stayed 20 years ago. The cost of the rooms was cheaper. It was clean and all you have to do is walk across the road to the econo lodge to use their indoor pool or hot tub. The staff at the econo lodge are very friendly and helpful. We would definatly use the carriage house aga... what people say » in. - We were the only ones which actually stayed in the hotel. Everyone else was across the street at the Econo Lodge, which was actually nice since we didn't have anyone walking around or being loud.
