Our children visited on the lanai and cracked fresh macadamia nuts. Easy location to beaches, restaraunts, and sunny Kona weather. Kurt's family home surpasses any destination hotel or resort. We longed for it after moving on to other parts of the island. 5 stars.,

  Upon arriving, we parked in the spot labeled Pineapple. Toby was working in his "man cave" and came out to greet us immediately. He showed us around the lower level facilities including the hoses to rinse off sand; the beach chairs, snorkel gear and coolers we could use for our stay (even sunscreen), and the outdoor shower and hot tub. Toby handed us over to Kirby :) and she showed us around the house - Toby and Kirby are superb hosts! Since they've lived in the area for decades, they have an intimate knowledge of the north short of Kauai, and of its residents -- chatting with them was a bit like being an insider! Toby's breakfasts are superb, and the home is beautiful, and supremely comfortable. The kitchen and living room were always open to guests and we took full advantage of it. Everything was very homely and comfortable and the location great for walking into hilo town itself for a beer and for exploring the sites of the big island. Oh and the breakfast is great too. - Perfect place, we loved it here. Patricia has a lovely home and she rents out rooms to guests. So this is more a homestay than a hotel. Everything was clean and cosy, and breakfast was definitely the best we had in Hawaii!!! Take a close look at the address and a map before you go though, because there is no sign on the house.

  The owners are genuinely nice and helpful people. I was given a checkout time of "whenever you want" on the day I left, which I really appreciated as my flight wasn't until evening. The B&B is in Maunaloa on the west side of the island. There is nothing much out there, which was a plus for me - I enjoyed the peace and quiet.   Amazing small B&B located in the basement of a Massage Clinic, 5 minutes walking distance from downtown Hilo. Relaxing atmosphere, very comfortable bed, healthy breakfast based on local fruits, cakes and coffee. My only complain is regarding the Wifi, although included, conection is very very bad.   The owner Dennis made us a wonderfull huge breakfeast every morning. So delicious!!! The area is wonderfull and we loved the antik furniture in the bright colloured apartment. You will get everything you need there. You defenetly need a car to get there but I would never stay on Big Island without a car. Overall we enjoyed our time there a lot - Dennis, the owner, is a retired clown from Minnesota. He is so friendly and interesting. I loved the view of the ocean! The room was charming - old Victorian - and very clean. I loved the interesting old stuff in the room and bathroom. Plenty of space. The breakfast was bountiful - crepes with fruit, scrambled eggs, outstanding bacon. Dennis also sells homemade jams, fudge and cookies.

  We stayed for 3 nights in February and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Terrie (the owner) is very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable of the local area she provided us with lots of information about what to see and do - and there is quite a lot, stuff you don't read about in the regular travel books. Everywhere was very clean and the accommodation is in a very peaceful lo - It´s perfect! Our suite was comfortable, clean and cozy. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great! (Fresh papaya with other fruits and yoghurt, and freshly baked bread or muffins). Location is absolutely wonderful, very tropical. Wifi worked great. Pahoa is a good base to start many excursions, even though it´s on the rainy side of the island.

  Breakfast was great meeting other travelers from around the world, very casual and relaxing. Nice setting in Tropic flora, nice west coast location for travelling either direction. - Everything. Everyone was so nice and friendly, breakfast was simple but perfect. I loved the animals and the proximity to a great hiking trail.
