  The Inn was surprisingly exciting, different, homely and very memorable. We felt we were really in Hawaii, not just another hotel or resort. Irene was very interesting, warm and friendly. She was very generous with her time, information about the area and booked a lava walk tour for us. Insight into her ukulele playing and other interests gave us appreciation of everyday life - A very friendly B&B in Pahoa, the innkeeper, Irene, was super friendly and helpful. I was feeling ill the day I arrived from a week- long cold, and Irene made me ginger tea immediately. I felt so much better the next day. It's a motherly touch that a large resort cannot replicated (which I stayed at before arriving at Lava Tree). It's something so small as that that can change your entire vacation and make it bettter.   The owner Dennis made us a wonderfull huge breakfeast every morning. So delicious!!! The area is wonderfull and we loved the antik furniture in the bright colloured apartment. You will get everything you need there. You defenetly need a car to get there but I would never stay on Big Island without a car. Overall we enjoyed our time there a lot - Dennis, the owner, is a retired clown from Minnesota. He is so friendly and interesting. I loved the view of the ocean! The room was charming - old Victorian - and very clean. I loved the interesting old stuff in the room and bathroom. Plenty of space. The breakfast was bountiful - crepes with fruit, scrambled eggs, outstanding bacon. Dennis also sells homemade jams, fudge and cookies.
