the room was very large and had a great bathroom as well. couldnt fault anything with the hotel at all.Staff attitude Hayley is wonderful. goog room. relaxing. We have stayed at The George regularly but this time was purely for an overnight stay to attend a funeral the following day. We normally have Dinner which is good value.Atmosphere was excellent, loved the whole building, uneven and creakingfloorboards and all. Like stepping back in time. Central location and yet really quiet. Old world charm of Hotel. Perfect cleanliness of room. Lovely breakfasts.right in town center, friendly staff, hotel has alot of character but with a modern feel. Standard of room. A very comfortable hotel with a big sense of history and a very cosy atmosphere. Really 'olde worldy'. Good carpark at the rear. The place itself, its abundant character and the general sense of being at the heart of things in Colchester. Good atmosphere.available parking and proximity to town center. found the hotel very friendly and helpful. General atmosphere very friendly . Service. the hotel was stiuated directly on the high st - very convenient.
staff were very friendly.
late check out was available.
room was large and bathroom was very clean. We were given a 50% discount on our room because we were initially given a single room instead of a double. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Spacious room. Comfortable bed. History and charm. The friendliness of the staff, the quirkiness of the hotel itself and the ambiance.the staff were extremely polite, helpful and always smiling, fantastic . thank you. I am really imprest by the cleaners as they do an excellent job in my room. Catering, Staff, Lounges. All in all a very nice experience. Convenient location, comfortable room, car park, good vfm.in the town and with parking. The style of the building. Location and facilities. The Central Location. very good. all the staff were helpful at all times. The restaurant for us was disappointing - portions were much too large. The George Hotel is a convenient location based in the centre of Colchester, a mix of value and comfort. Very nice and unspoiled hotel - the staff were very friendly especially the gentleman behind the bar. Locaton excellant, staff very helpful, lovely old building, quiet andcomfortable room. Nothing majorly important to add just that for £40 per night stay it was excellent....Rooms were very clean and hotel was central to the town centre. how funny the room was and good location. room was really nice, good value. The location --the atmosphere. Covenient location. Old building charm. pleasant room. as above. No, but stairs could be a huge problem for elderly / infirm. The rolling, wobbly floor!!!. n/a. Once the bar closed guests drinks were ordered from the night porter, a very busy man!! (We waited over 25 minutes for a glass of wine). there is no lift. The web rate of £40 was excellent value but the breakfast at £10.95 each was a bit steep. Would of been better if breakfast was included in the price of hotel. Finding the car park was very difficult - and I have been to Colchester on many occasions. The price of the breakfast. The noise from the bar almost next door (we were at the front). The shabby carpets, which seem to let down the rest of the décor and comfort of the place. Breakfast could be better quality, at the price.great stay unfortunatly spoiled by guests in the room above singing and walking about on extreemly creeky floor until 5am, so not much sleep. Carvery food some way from piping hot , so we ate out after thefirst night .Menu selection was limited. noise from outside could be heard but did not disturb us.
voices from the corridors could be heard but i think thats to be expected from a 500 year old hotel.
i was not disapointed with anything in the hotel. We are tall people and found the low chandeliers in the centre of the room annoying. They are far to low for anyone for that matter..... There were some minor maintenance issues of the room; such as the bath, a missing lightbulb, patched paint on walls. An out of date beer!. the price of the full english breakfast. I am not imprest by the size of a double room as i would have expected a bit more room to move around in.To not have a bar service is not acceptable, hence the poor grading onquestion 2 and to that end I would not use this hotel again. TV was old and picture was poor, not all channels were working.carpets rather worn. Decor could do with a freshen up. Needs updating. A tired hotel which is due for a refurbishment, which it looks like the new owners have got planned.Breakfast starts too late. I would have liked to have ordered breakfast for my room but needed to leave by 7.20am and the first choice was ffor 7 - 715am. I would have been happy to pay a small surcharge if I could have ordered breakfast for my room between 6.45am to 7am. Rooms were very small. the whole room was on a downhill slope from when you walked into the door. it was a bit shabby ,worn carpets and furniture, etc. Needs refurbishing. Decoration was a little jaded.
