What people say
I stayed two nights in two different buildings. In the main building I like the ice-making machine and the fridge in the room. It was comfortable and convenient.
In the annex my room was very comfortable and spacious (a family room) with a pleasant view over the town. There was a complimentary sherry, which I'm unsure whether I liked or not. The sherry was vile, but the gesture was amusing in a quaint way. There was real milk in the fridge downstairs, which was a definite plus. The bathroom was. all reviews »
Good value relatively close to North Station. My room was upstairs and
had nice view over allotments and trees. The whole place has been
designed for practical travelers who don't want all the twee frue
frue rubbish just a reasonably priced, pleasant place with good
bathroom, to get a good nights sleep and collect oneself for the day
ahead. I paid for the room only but the breakfast looked like good value
and served in an attractive room. Good supply of tea/coffee/hot
chocolate and nice touch w.
The room was well equipped, warm, comfortable and above all CLEAN. There was a lounge and small area under the stairs which contained a microwave, coffee machine etc. We found our stay very good and would recommend this accommodation to others who want a budget/friendly place to stay which is clean and comfortable with all facilities like tv, kettle and coffee & tea facilities in their room.
We wanted somewhere to stay while visiting family in Colchester. We were delighted with the Railway Sleeper. Very comfortable and clean. There is a nice sitting room with a microwave and tea/coffee. We did not need to use this facility so did not see a member of staff during our stay. There was good communication by phone.
I booked this hotel for a friend who doesn't use the internet. The hotel was unmanned and as a result they sent me details regarding access, in reply I sent details of my friends name.
My friend told me that he was happy with the hotel and the arrangements had worked jut fine.
Comfortable bed, large flatscreen tv, large bathroom with shower and jacuzzi bath. Very friendly and helpful hostess. easily the cheapest i could find and from travelling around alot best value for money ive had, normally pay nearly double for alot more basic accomodation.
Our room was excellent, the bathroom was magnificent, lots of nice little touches to help make a traveller feel at home. Although dubious re the checking in process, we had no need to worry, everything was well organised. Would certainly come again.
My room was really neat, the bathroom was clean. I arrived the room and
left the next day without seeing any staff. Clear information about the
location of my room and the keys to the room were sent to me on time. It
was a good experience.
Welcome pack of muffin, juice and yoghurt in fridge. Tea and coffee making facilities. Iron and hair dryer. Room was clean, warm and functional. Good check in with text message of entry pin. Useful to have parking on site.
Communication was excellent
Arriving in the room to find it lovely and warm.
Did not expect to find two bags in the fridge containing food also orange juice.
Something I have never found elsewhere.
Very well equipped. Spotlessly clean. Hospitality tray renewed every day. Can contact staff by phone in an emergency Freedom to come and go as you please. Short distance into Colchester.
Very clean and comfortable with extras such as hairdryer iron and fridge I wouldn't have expected for the price. Independent access to the property and parking was much appreciated.
Really easy self check in. Perfect for what I needed it for. Nice and clean. Everything you could need, iron, hairdryer, tv, fridge! Great sized bathroom. Enjoyed my stay.
The room was modern quiet and clean. The shower was brilliant. Quite small but had everything we needed. The breakfast was lovely and the staff couldnt do enough for us.
The Railway sleeper was Very clean, warm and had good facilities, booking in was simple and well organised, great value for money, I would definitely come again!.
perfect for somewhere to sleep...particularly liked the PIN check in the snack left in the fridge and not having to talk to anyone..the bed was very comfortable.
room clean fresh and comfy quiet location. text me key code and room number .would recommend to anyone .good value for money .wil use next time in colchester.
Friendliness of the owner. The numerous facilities were excellent, far more than you would have in a hotel. Highly recommended and will certainly visit again.
A highly enjoyable time at the hotel. Very easy to find. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
A nice place to stay ,cannot comment on staff ,as we did not see a soul during our visit ,an unusual but affective way to run a small Hotel.
loved the fact i was there for a family funeral booked a twin room for me and my daughter when we arrived we had a room each!! brilliant!!.
Privacy.
Guestfriendly
Not really a big hotel, a relief for us, just a few guests, very silent.
very nice private bathroom.
The room was small but clean and comfortable. There was not anything missing that I needed and I would stay there again.
Everything was excellent, nice, comfortable, extremaly clean and quite:) no complains.
Highly recomended, be back soon:).
Room was clean, and nicley laid out bed very comfortable. If you wanted to bring food in, you could use the dinning area.
Was very clean and comfortable.
Convenient to town with supermarket nearby and buses to the city, very close to hotel.
Good location close to train station. Rooms very clean and well equipped. We had the breakfast which was very good.
They had thought through everything I would need, even though it is self check in and there were no staff present.
Value for money. Place was cosy yet comfortable. Quiet at night. Perfect place to stay for budget travellers.
Exceptionally clean, comfortable, nice decor and furnishings. Good location. Nice view from my room.
good room, nice touches like packs in fridge, quiet area, ptb 200 yds down road which was good.
Great stay, nice location, nice clean room, good service, no complains, will be back!!.
Fridge in room. Complimentary snack(s) in fridge.
Auto check-in worked perfectly.
It was close to the motorway. The complimentary snack was a nice touch.
Friendly and welcoming staff. They could not have been more helpful.
It was nice and clean. It was very quite what is important for me.
The fridge in the room, the ice machine, the parking.
comfy bed. clean and tidy and the bathroom was good,.
Comfort of the bed and space of the room.
i liked all of it.
very enjoyable stay.
That we can take are little dog with us.
Spotlessly clean, facilities, location.
How private it was and comfortable.
Cleanliness
Great check-in system.
Didn't have to talk to anyone!.
It was clean and comfortable.
It was really a great stay.
Very handy for the station. Clean and obvious effort to give it some
style. Lounge area. (I don't need a bar, luckily, because I was
shifted to the annex, which had none) Quiet and safe area.
For me gave opportunity to recharge batteries, meet a friend, shop and chill in a clean pleasant environment.
In the annex the bathroom was fabulous but, although, private, not en-suite. This meant that every time you wanted to use it there was a rigmarole of having to go out into the corridor to the room next door, unlocking the door, etc. Not ideal at all. I think that this quirk should have been mentioned in the hotel details (as indeed should the whole fact of there being an annex) before booking as this would certainly have put some people off - possible me included.
That we had to empty cups and get water from the bathroom sink.
The wonderful bathroom was separate from the bedroom so had to be kept locked. A small inconvenience for all the facilities at this budget hotel/lodge. (This was a superior room.).
That both my friend and myself had rung them and got no reply at all.
That despite my sending an email which they acted upon, they didn't have the courtesy to acknowledge.
My friends only complain was regarding the TV which he said was very small and so high up that he had to stretch his neck to see it.
Finally like on other occasions lately letsbookhotel.com's clients are taking the monies, from my credit card. It used to be that you could pay on arrival.
Nothing.
Fridge was noisy.
They only provide cooked Breakfast mon - fri ( but made up for it with the breakfast bags).
Traffic, but nothing can be done about this and it does ease in evenings. No light over desk. Room a bit small but it is a budget hotel. Did not like all the roundabouts and fast traffic in Colchester.
A bit small. The sink in the bathroom was too small but this just nit picking as overall it was good value.
Nothing!.
nothing.
Leaving for home!!!!.
The noise of the street in the morning.
But we got two other rooms instead of the first one, mine was much more silent.
The staff were friendly on the phone but it was a bit strange not seeing anyone there. Also it would be a lot better if it was possible to have breakfast there.
Had to share the bathroom and toilet, with another room lucky enough the other room was occupied by a member of the family.
Location requires a bit walking from Colchester North Station but still manageable.
Very small rooms. (admittedly, they are advertised as compact).
no staff, got a text to tell me to let myself in and pick up key from behind door, can only order breakfast 24 hr in advance ,but not allowed into room until 3 pm,so mathematically this is impossible.
The room is a bit squashed and insufficient lighting.
very warm and had to open the windows at night and the traffic very noisy, also the stairs were very steep.
Location. The sound of the cars can be very distracting.
Nothing.
Sharing a bathroom. And the key locks.
All ok.
You had no contact with the owners, so you felt isolated.
No cause for complaints at all.
Staff were non-existent, I saw nobody. Check-in times could be slightly
more flexible. Photos below do not correspond to the room I booked
(compact).
Being put in the annex without my agreement, after I had committed the
fee. Not having en-suite. To relieve myself I had to enter the corridor,
lock my room, unlock the bathroom.
Would have liked more tea bags in room...
