I'm not sure why this hotel doesn't get better reviews. My girlfriend and I stayed for two days and had a great experience. The staff was friendly, the location was great, room was clean and updated. We stayed in room 404, which I highly recommend. There was a private full balcony off the room that provided a complete unobstructed view of the Golden Gate Bridge. What an amazing view it is!! I'm not sure sure why so many people complain at Da Vinci Villa on here, I would recommend it to everyone.
all reviews » Terrific suite with fantastic view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Welcoming and helpful staff. Convenient parking, although daily charge of $25 plus tax seemed a little high. Good continental breakfast, with fresh fruit, pastries, and bagels, bread, preserves etc. Great location for walking to Fishermans Wharf etc, or the great value bus into the city. Our room was very large with a view of the Golden Gate bridge. The queen-size beds were comfortable, the staff was friendly and accomodating, and the room was clean and quiet. Our grandsons enjoyed the heated pool, and the continental breakfast was good. We also appreciated that the hotel had parking available at a reasonable price. Very helpful staff. First rate and I think they deserve a pay increase. Facilities were clean, updated and on a par with anything else we had stayed in across the USA. Close to Fishermans Wharf and tour coys picked up from outside the hotel. I will stay here again if I am lucky enough to get back to SF. Thanks again to the staff. Good breakfast, good bed, always hot water in bathe, clean and simple. Took two days and three staff to clarify how to connect to wi-fi! Only one drink at breakfast, after that it was $3 with free refill. As this isn't a "budget" hotel, I thought this a little mean. Painfully slow elevators. The elevators (lifts) were slow but it just meant getting ready a bit earlier - not a big problem. Breakfasts were ordinary, but an able bodied person could work up an apptite by heading to Polk Street chafes. The room got rather hot into the afternoon (perhaps a function of it facing west, and the weather being unseasonally warm for November). A minor issue only. I felt the room could have had better lighting, only one light in centre of room. Also curtains blinds, let too much light in from outside at night. Also internet was a little slow I felt. The bathroom was small especially the sink and shower but the room was fine. The supply of body wash ran out and was not replaced by the cleaning staff on our last day. Had to request clean glasses each day. Used cups and glasses were left in the room. The breakfast was not really fresh, specially on the 2nd day. Some of the sweet buns/rolls got some mould, we fortunately saw it before eating it. Also it was not really cheap, we paid for it!. Complimentary breakfast the first day had problems, the toaster didn't work, not enough seating. Didn't like taking two elevators until we found one that would take us to the 5th floor. The people in the pool were very noisy. Would have liked to have counter space/storage in bathroom. Could have used a few wall decorations/pictures. Very close and convenient parking but kind of pricey. Rooms lack soundproofing, noisy neighbours can be a problem. Our concerns and initial problems were sorted by reception staff. No significant problems. I like to have a reading lamp by the bed---the ones in the hotel not conducive to good reading light. I like a tub but the roomy shower in our room was nice. Doesnt look great from thenoutside but lovely inside. Breakfast queues to long to bother waiting. The Continental breakfast was rather cheesy.....one beverage?? Also, we had requested a bus to the airport for the Sunday at 4:45 am but the clerk made the reservation for the Saturday and we got a wake up call Saturday morning at 5:30 am..... We would have missed the plane if the call was for Saturday. Put a little lack of confidence for Sunday bus and added some stress. Elevator slow but stairs work fine. Wish breakfast could have had some hot meals, which my husband enjoys (eggs) But really no major complaints. Other then a shuttle to the top of the hill.......lol. No good lighting in room or mirrors. There were 2 desks but one blocked closet so we had to move it. Window needed curtain versus blinds to keep light out at night. Outside room faced busy street and was loud pretty much all night. (ear plugs help for sure!). The complimentary breakfast was disappointing. If you are on a low carb diet, this certainly is not the meal for you. Not one ounce of protein (i.e powdered eggs, bacon, nuts) were included in the breakfast. We were by the pool which was nice to look at but quite noisy early and late in the day. The rooms weren't too sound proof but overall not too many complaints. Room was a bit dirty under the beds. No fridge in room (initially) Water pressure in room (302) was poor. The sink was not really well because water couldn't run out and once we wanted to watch a movie but pay TV didn't work...but after we said it they fixed everything ;-). The price, all together including the parking fees and the taxes it was about 2.5 times more than we paid in other hotels in other cities. I don't know about other hotels in San Francisco, though. no fridge in room. few problems with lights fusing but quickly resolved by staff. If you are offering Danish pastries/croissants etc for breakfast, they need to be freshly baked. Extremely slow internet access. Paper-thin walls, you can hear everything in neighboring rooms. Slow elevators. Expensive (during conferences). There is no shower nor space to change / leave cloth close to sauna/gym. Can't fault it!. 2 elevator system was confusing. Amirror in the bedroom would have been useful and a bedside table on both sides - not just one. Very noisy being right on Van Ness Avenue. This could be solved by supplying earplugs. Twice one our rooms was not cleaned. It was advertised on Fisherman's Warf and it was quite a walk from there. My room was located far from the elevator. The walls were thin. The elevator took forever. What's not to like!. That the gym and sauna were not equipped with towels, but the staff was fairly quick to help. The room was very warm, stuffy. The restaurant downstairs had recently closed, so couldn't have dinner there one night. Still open for free breakfast though. Noise in the back where our room was...car alarms going off, trash truck at 6:30 in morning, street sweeping...not hotels fault but annoying when on vacation. I would ask for room facing the pool or interior of the hotel next time. Restaurant too busy in the mornings and generally overcrowded. Entrance to lifts is a bit drab and could do with a fresh paint job. A little bit unpleasant smell in corridor, but not in the room.
