This family-run hotel offers a very central location in a quiet street in the heart of Vienna, just a 10-minute walk away from Saint Stephen’s Cathedral. The spacious and modern rooms and suites of Hotel Das Tigra are air-conditioned and feature satellite TV, a minibar, safe, and a bathroom. In 1773, Mozart and his father lived in a small apartment in the historical part of the hotel building, which dates from the 16th century, when they were invited to perform in front of the Empress Maria Theresia at Schönbrunn Palace. At the façade to the left of the hotel entrance, you can see a memorial plaque commemorating Mozart’s first stay in Vienna.

But compared the the Hotel Kaiserhof in Vienna, where we stayed in May, we found the breakfast at the Das Tigra disappointing. The choice of food was dull, unimaginative and limited compared to the Kaiserhof and the two cooked dishes - bacon and scrambled egg - were not very nicely done. When one of us ordered an omelette, it was too dry and oily to enjoy.The air-conditioning is noisy. No. My room was located near a stone stairwell and it was a bit nosy in the morning when people were checking out. Very quiet area of town so not many restaurants within short walk.The hotel information pack informed us tea/coffee facilities could bebrought to our room free of charge 24 hours a day. One night we went tothe bar for 2 cups of tea, and were charged 6.80 euro! The next night wetook the tea to our room, and it was free of charge. Moral of thestory... Don't drink tea/coffee in the bar area! Besides that... Hotelwas perfect!. Lack of ice. The suite is on the 8th floor and the elevators only reach the 7th. you have to climb stairs to get to the room. Hotel was a bit small and did not feel like a 4 Star. Air conditioning didn't work very well. The downside is that even thought the hotel had a state of art heating system even when you turned it off the room was too hot. Opening the window was our only recourse in January.Check-in could have been a little bit earlier. We had an advanced booking rate which was charged to our credit card as soon as the booking was made. Booking.com states that the credit card info is not used until arrival at the hotel - only as a form of deposit (as in the case of the other 2 hotels we booked). If using an advanced rate it should be made clear that the charge is made immediately.The cooling capacity of the airconditioning was to low, we had to openthe window, which gave some noice from outside.
