  the staff were very friendly and ALWAYS said aloha every time they passed. The pool and gym were wonderful and we used them every day. I liked having the Kings and Queens market close by as we had a choice of eating establishments. the beach was protected and great for water sports. Down the beach was the Lava Lava Bar - we ate their quite a few... what people say » times and had drinks at sunset. Thanks to John and NIck there for a wonderful part of our stay. - The beach was very nice. Our room would have been perfect if we'd had a full ocean view instead of a partial because of a tree. The gym is nice and clean. The concierge was helpful but be warned, it is run by Expedia so no Kama'aina rates. The nearby markets were convenient and a good option if you don't want to eat at the hotel. Several good restaurants as well as a food court are available.

  It's an older resort but that is not a problem at all. Fabulous resort facilities, very clean and comfortable room (partial ocean view) with great service. You can't swim in the ocean directly from the hotel but it is such a dramatic location as the resort is positioned directly on lava rock. Views of the ocean are stunning. Watching the manta ray... what people say » s from the restaurant and bar was beautiful. The location is terrific with plenty of beaches and bays to explore. A hire car is a good idea. - Beautiful location, spent the most of my time at the resort because it was so beautiful and relaxing. Amazing pool to sit back with a Mai Tai and watch the sunset. Watched the manta rays feeding and ate delicious 'spider shrimp' at Rays on the Bay. Would definitely recommend to others and would stay there again myself

  First, the value. It was nicer than most upscale hotels we've stayed at, and at half the price. All amenities were for comfort and our stay was great!   This is a great resort! The units are spacious and well equipped. They even have electric blenders,beaters and an ice bucket and numerous bbqs. Lots of colourful birds flit around in the trees and there's lots of other cute wildlife. Its only a short drive to the best supermarket we found in Hawaii. Luxuriously appointed apartment on first floor (not ground). Large sitting room and balcony. Beautiful tropical garden setting. Free garage parking. Immaculate swimming pools nearby and hot tubs.   Everything! Place was immaculate, big, in fact it was so spacious that the tv in the living/dining room appeared small. 30' away. We will be going back again today. Staff was accomodating and friendly. Met all expectations. Balcony was nice for morning and evening meals. - We only stayed for one night.   Yes, the place is old and run down, but if you're looking for a clean, budget-friendly place, it's fine. Great shower. We got a free upgrade to a room with a king-size bed, so that was very nice. The location is great. Very central and a short walk or drive to many restaurants and beaches. It is waterfront on a nice beach, but most of the units... what people say » do not have direct views of the water. - The location is very good and on the beach which could be dangerous due to high currents but is very nice when the water is calm. The rooms are huge and kept clean. They offer free breakfast (some pastries, bananas, juice, coffee, and tea) which is very convenient to start a busy day on Kauai. We liked our stay in Sands hotel and will definitely go there again.

  The staff was really helpful when the door keys they gave us did not work and sent up someone who had to go and get special equipment to clear out the lock so it would take the key. This was just a I have just got off the airplane late at night and am leaving for elsewhere the next morning destination so we did not look to see anything in the area... what people say » . - Lovely location, with both pool and beach. Lots of shopping, and food variety within easy walking distance. Extreemly friendly staff. Accomodated us well the last day, with parking and beach towels, as our plane was very late to leave.

  Beautiful hotel with fantastic activities. Free activities are offered and staff are friendly. Good choice of restaurants with free shuttle to local shops. Nice lagoon and wonderful heated pools.   The location cannot be beat close to the beaches market and shops. It was like living in a botanical garden beautiful plants flowers and amazing pool. Walking down the pathway from the lobby to the beach was like walking thru a sweet little jungle ... I loved it! The Kona Islander Inn is like a gem in the middle of town.
