    This is a really professional hotel which excels in thoughtful touches. Although I had a single room, the bed was generous and comfortable. As it was very hot, a fan suddenly appeared in the room after the bed was turned down. There was a cafetiere and real coffee in the room.     Staff were unbelievably friendly and accomodating. Went way beyond job descriptions to help us, including opening breakfast early so that we could leave on time. They also printed out maps, descriptions, etc. - Spacious bedroom, well equipped with a terrific river view. Helpful and friendly staff. Excellent food and an interesting menu.

    This is a perfect setting for nature-lovers, with superb views of the Black Mountains. Sheep, chickens, and all kinds of birds are right on the doorstep.     Everything about Old Downton Lodge was perfect. We could not have wished for a better place to have stayed. David the Manager came to greet us as we arrived and his friendly, courteous manner continued throught our stay. The setting was stunning and the atmosphere was warm and relaxed whilst providing guests with that something special.
