We had a room which backed onto the Tennis court with a sitting out area which was great. My husband sat out there with a drink and was visited by a flock of friendly sparrow, two large rabbits, a family of quail, several gulls and two ducks who eventually followed him back into our room! Apart from this the pool was an unusual shape but good for a swim and the spa pool was great. The buffet supper was good value with a wide choice of food and as much as you could eat.
all reviews » Great location just outside the main town being an easy and pleasant 10 minute walk along the beach front. Good size room with a deck and then nicely maintained gardens and lawns with a clear view across the bay towards Russell. Peaceful (but see the -ve). We found it good value for a clean, comfortable room with a nice view. Loved the Dolphine Cruise and Darryl's Dinner Cruise. Absolutely loved the Bay of Islands and the Waitangi Culture Show. We saw another Culture Show and thought this one was by far the best. Also enjoyed the fish and chips on the old Ship near the bridge. All in all, loved our time in Paihia. Breakfast was very enjoyable. I liked the location, just out of Paihia, about a 20 min walk from the town, along a beautiful beach front. Plus it's nice being close to Waitangi and all the beautiful bush and hills. The service was excellent, especially with the ladies who booked us in for breakfast in the mornings. Nice rooms, and the best shower ever!!. Loved the peace and tranquility. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Even enjoyed the couple of days of wet weather because I could sit/ read and take in the scenery. Very relaxing, unpretentious environment that offfered all amenities in a stunning environment. The swimming pool was amazing. Really liked the fact that it was right next to the Waitangi treaty grounds - it was really interesting visiting and my Grandma returned to see the show as it was so close to us. Can't speak highly enough of staff and the magnificent location. Recommended to four friends who visited in March, and loved it too. I liked the fact that beside your computers in your lobby you had a printer which I was able to use to print out a e ticket. The two previous hotels had no printer beside their computers. Our room on the sunny side was left with curtains open and when we arrived it was difficult to cool the room with only a ceiling fan and a standing fan. We didn't get the room cool until the next day and then as we left the curtains closed the room remained cooler. The balcony on the room I stayed in was very small. It had two chairs and a little table but 2 people could not sit out there comfortably at all. There wasnt enough room to stretch your legs out. Also the tv was very old and very small for a place that advertises as being upmarket. I was quite disapointed with my room after seeing what was on the net when I looked. It felt old and very blah. While the location is amazing I feel the the room we stayed in needed to be updated, seemed to be a little tired. The bathroom while it was clean, it also needed some improvement. No assistance offered or given with my luggage when I arrived. Disappointing as travelling on my own. The room was hot, it would have been better to be able to sleep with more ventilation. The fan didn't cut it. Free wi fi at the lobby for 20 mins was very limiting in this day and age. We stayed at budget accommodation and they offered 2 hours per day in your room. Toilet took a long time to fill, hair dryer didn't work in bathroom. The staff were unhelpful. Even though check in was 2:00 pm our room wasn't ready until 3:30 pm, with no explanation given for this or other options made available. We were just told to wait. While the location and views from the rooms are amazing, the standard rooms are one of the smallest I have ever come across. 20 mins free WiFi in foyer was Ok but would be more convenient in room -free wifi unlimited wifi would be a great improvement. Facilities are a little old. So it would have been luxury a 15 years ago. But still comfortable. Having to wait way past 3:30pm before we could get into our room. And finally going up to the reception to ask if ready yet, to be told it was ready but they had failed to let us know. A bit disappointed that 'Harbour views' meant views of the river estuary and not the Paihia harbour which had beautiful views of the islands and ocean. Our accommodation wing was budget and a bit knocked about. No lift so had to take heavy cases up the staircase. But I guess we paid a budget price so didn't expect the executive suite. Room 506 had the light from the hall come through cavity at the top of door in the evening. Asking for payment for Wifi I thought the Copthorne hotels would offer a normal, free service. Seems out of step with the rest of the package. Fat pillows, no thin ones. Everything was great the only thing that I could think of is that the pillows were not the best for my wife and I but bearable for the stay and I am sure they would of helped us out if we had mentioned it. The Dinner menu (AlaC) was not as good as the cost suggested. Dined out the 2nd night, was cheaper and was excellent quality. Would go again - Only seafood on the front in Pahia. Wifi access only free in lobby, had to pay in the rooms. nothing. No Sky Tv. none... bathroom rather small. ice tray in fridge had a crack so could not make ice. Breakfast tinned pears had gone off as they fizzed in my mouth. Had to spit them out. Would like to have seen baked beans instead of spaghetti. Food overall could have been a bit better. TV in bar was too small and needs to be larger and placed more central. No wifi in room. The bathroom floor had hair on it when we checked in. It was pretty gross. The big entrance way having to carry our bags all the way in. Wifi only certain areas. Access from room to pool had to go through dining area. A summer resort on the beach with NO AIR CONDITIONING..?. Construction work during evening times. Room service was slow and got the order wrong twice. But front desk took charges off account. Slightly tired furnishings, ants in the bathroom. Charging both before and after my stay - this disrupted my budgeting for my trip!. The floor creates sound while walking around. Complimentary wifi should be available. noise allowed after 11pm and before 7am. Limited parking. Catered party took over guest parking.
