We liked everything about Bay Sands - the Manager was the most helpful, informative,friendly person we came across in our whole NZ holiday... Nothing too much trouble and we ate at some amazing places thanks to his suggestions......And if this wasn't enough he even offered to allow us to leave our car at the motel whilst we went on an overnight cruise as it was far safer at the Motel than anywhere else. Our room had a beach view, was spotlessly clean and well fitted out with kitchenette etc - v.
all reviews » Staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival. Room was clean and comfortable and facilities were very good. We had a ground floor sea view, which wasn't strictly a sea view as most of the time, cars were parked directly across from the room as there was parking for the beach. The beach was literally across the street, though so it was still a good spot. Restaurants, the wharf and the centre is a 15 minute walk from the accommodation, so pretty good location. The view from our room was 5 stars. Looked out at the Bay of Islands. Gorgeous. Also the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Dropped us off at a trailhead so we could hike one way. Offered so many great ideas matched to our interests! Large suite! Very spacious! Free wifi had excellent signal!. The friendly service and welcome. Late checkin but no issues Had to delay checkout and staff very accomodating with request. Pity other motel owners could not do likewise. Other owners could learn much from this motel. Thanks Peter I have only one place I will stay on future visits. Our party consisted of a brother and sister and respective spouses. Staff was fantastic, providing us with additional information about the tours we had already booked--details like what items we needed to take with us, where the tour would pick up, and even provided us extra towels to take since we did not bring extra beach towels with us. Great location in good resort, short walk along to main centre. Manager delightful, could not have been more helpful and friendly. He advised on good restaurants locally and trips to do. The large suite was suitable for disabled guests with good access for wheelchairs. The location right on the bay front road which was nice and quiet at night. Everything was clean and tiddy.There were cute gardening touches throughout the complex. The room decor was nicely done. We loved everything so much we stayed an extra night. The owner and manager were very friendly and helpful in recommending activities. The owner even drove us to the nearby Haruru Falls walking trail. The beach is just across the road and good for swimming. Free WiFi was really appreciated. We had a room overlooking the sea and right next door to a bakery where you can get great bread, cakes and coffee! Fabulous area to stroll in and not far from Waitangi. Short walk to the shops and bars. We had a really relaxing stay. Friendly welcome - very comfortable accommodation and adequate facilities. Waterfront location - easy walk to Paihia centre and wharf ~ also easy walk to Waitangi grounds. a Host very helpful when urgent medical assistance required. The location.Straight across the road from the water and not even a 5 minute walk to the center of town for restaurants and bars etc.The staff were knowledgeable and gave us a map to find our way around town. Great location - opposite the beach and playground which suited us. Our young daughter thought it was fantastic. The motel unit was basic but had everything we needed and very clean . Lovely view. Friendly staff, fabulous room, and our son was in heaven with the park and beach straight across the road. Recommended for a return visit soon - definate value for money. Seaview. didn't like this motel at all im afraid, felt for the owner/staff member as he seemed unaware of the issues we had. That we couldn't stay longer!. Only thing was that the free wi-fi wasn't available in our room, but that wasn't a big deal for us. Can't think of anything. None whatsoever. Nothing!. Parking was tricky, especially if you are not used to the left side of the road driving. We stayed in the large family unit, and felt that although very clean, the furnishings were dated, giving the suite a `tired` look. Needs an update and a tiled bathroom with modern shower. Nothing major, but the shower drained slowly. Road was noisy and busy during the day but fairly quite at night. Pahia is a bit on the seaside resort rundown side of things. - could be in need of a bit of modernisation. However it is within easy reach of Russell and the ferry journey alone is worth it. expensive Wi-Fi. The bathroom is starting to look its age.The cleaners need to look up when in the bathroom.The solar tube is full of cobwebs.Satelite tv wasnt working while we were there but we watched the beach instead!None of these would stop us staying there again though!. There was nothing unlikeable about Bay Sands Motel. We thought the wet floor shower was a bit cumbersome but ideal for wheelchair access. Maybe other units were different. Could smell the neighbors next door smoking in the room - not much the hotel can do about that though!. No discount on room rate in respect of 'low season'. A bit of a walk to centre for evening meals. Room quite small for 3 adults but good size for 2. Room quite dark. Shower lacked power. Old fashioned decor and poor quality electrical fittings. nothing. Limited sky channels. nothing. Nothing. the room was very dirty and dusty, dishcloth was dirty, dust was evident on fixtures and the shower was not clean, also next door was a private dwelling which was on view, looked like undesirables with loads of kids, and a very messy garden and porch, not what you want when you book a beach ocean view room. The shower in one unit was blocked and water pressure very low. Road noise all night.
