Hotel Zero 1 was a very modern and classy hotel. We stayed at the Suite for 149 per night which we thought was worth the price because the room was very large and clean, with modern clean bathroom, and microwave and fridge kitchenette unit complete with dishes, utensils, wine glasses. It is a newer hotel so it is very clean. It is also very well located; right at the gates of china town and one block away from Montreal's main downtown street St.Catherines. It is also a 15 minute walking distanc.
all reviews » Really well located, close to a lot of good restaurants (in the quartier latin), more economic ones (in the quartier chinois), bars/night life (mainly gay, in the village), to theaters, museums and other cultural activities (in the quartier des spectacles), shopping (st catherine street, not much), many tourism points (old montreal and downtown tourist points are all in a walking distance) and public transportation (all metro lines are in a walking distance and the bus stop to/from the airport . This hotel was modern, and stylish. Its very simple, and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms have everything you need, including a refrigerator, and microwave. Beds were comfortable. There's an outside terrace which is nice to have a drink on at night, or have a coffee out there in the morning, and enjoy the city view. There's free wifi, and if you didn't bring an iPad or laptop, they have computers to use there. Location was great, short walk to Old Town area, only a few blocks about . The hotel itself is very nice and the rooms appeared larger than the photos (which are a bit dark). The rooms have a mini-fridge, sink area and coffee maker which I really liked. The bed was very comfy too. The rooms have free Wifi (with a strong connection). Every morning there is coffee and muffins in the lobby too. The location is a less than 10 minute walk to Vieux Montreal and the Notre Dame Basilica and across the street is Chinatown (affordable food). We (a girlfriend and I) stayed for 4 nights. We loved it. The receptionist that checked us in, Joel was super nice and informative. All the staff were helpful and understanding. It was close to the Montreal Eaton Centre. Although, we wouldn't recommend eating anything but pizza in the downtown area of Montreal, this was a good trip for us. Hotel Zero 1 is rustic, and funky. It's an amazing place to live on a small getaway. Spacious, convienant store located in back of the hotel, location is in the heart of the city with easy access to subway and china town. Beautiful park next door. However, it was filled with many impoverished people asking for money. This was apparent in all parts of the city and Rue Saint Catherine. The hotel is on the border the an area where safety was questioned if you walk a couple of blocks away from the hotel. Central location, walking distance to Old Montreal, Chinatown, Shopping, Points of Interest,. Room was small but very comfortable, ultra clean, quiet, great view of Chinatown and Old Montreal, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, wonderful for holiday travellers. Courteous, friendly and knowledgeable staff. would stay there again. Very stylish with modern design. The bed was very comfortable, slept like a baby. My window overlooked Chinatown and that was a great view. The receptionist Chantelle was very helpful and made my trip better with recommendation for restaurants, directions etc. I was able to walk to everything I wanted to see in Montreal. The hotel is very central and within easy access of shopping and theatres. The Wi-Fi is free and the signal is very strong. I like the fact that I could prepare light snacks in my room, coffee maker and microwave supplied. I didn't find the lack of a breakfast room a drawback as I enjoy eating that meal in solitude... The loft at 12th floor was spacious, design , nice kitchenette, very comfortable bed and awesome view of Montreal downtown. Close to shopping area and place des arts for fine dining and entertainment. Close also to Bixi station and next to bus 747 that takes you directly to the airport. The location was perfect for me. My meeting was on the other corner, right in front of the hotel. The space is just enough for one person, but confortable for a short stay, for ins and outs. The kitchen is just correct for breakfast and ready to eat meals. The view from our room was spectacular. The layout was very accommodating for two people. The design was chic. I liked having a computer with a printer available for printing out directions and such. Wi-fi was great and pervasive throughout the hotel. The hotel had great central location! -one block from shopping street ... All you needed and more was available in the room e.g hair dryer, TV, scale, microwave, forks and knives for dining, desk, ironing ect. Room was very nice decorated and CLEAN. This hotel is in a terrific location - just across from Chinatown, and short walk to Latin Quarter and Old Montreal. There is also the plus of an IGA supermarket two blocks away which we used for milk/cereal/fruit for breakfast in our room. Rooms were neat, both from cleanliness as well as design.. Reasonable location for access to china town, old montreal.. area around hotel OK.. Overall, good value! reception, cheerful, pleasant, though not always too knowledgeable .. Very comfortable and attractive room. The hotel did not have a pool. It has a nice patio on the 5th floor terrace open 10am-11pm and a small workout room. Two extras that the hotel offer are the fitness center and the terrace. Both needed some upgrade, specially the fitness center. They don't serve breakfast (although there are coffee and muffins available in the early morning). Although the rooms looked really beatiful and clean, there were spider webs on the ceiling (it was really nothing to worry about, it didn't bother me, but it might bother you). You are right across the street from China town. It really did not bother me very much, it was neat to walk through. Just a few homeless sitting around that area. But nothing bad about this. My friends we were with actually liked the china town!. The location of the hotel is in between the metro and the old port. It's equidistant from each other; however the walk to the metro is a bit sketchy and the park behind the hotel attracts some rough people. Regarding the hotel, the only thing which I didn't like was the fitness room was smaller than my hotel room. It needed more equipment and free weights. Being 6ft 5 the furniture sits below my center of gravity. Panhandlers on the street were aggressive, the valet service changed the setting on my car seat. The main elevator was often taken, especially by the cleaning staff or staff. There should be a rule that the staff uses more than secondary elevator and leave the primary elevator only of clients of the hotel. A more confortable chair or divan would be appreciated. A toaster in the kitchen would be a plus. The lobby constantly had a sewage-smell to it whenever we walked in. The maid service was somewhat unpredictable: everyday we were missing something: a towel, a hand-cloth, a fork. Once we told reception, it was replaced, but still a hastle. The workout room was pathetic. Although the elliptical was great, the multi-purpose exercise machine was impossible to figure out. My room located next to elevator so a little noise every time it was running .. However while sleeping I didn't notice ... Only minor criticism would be that there are no brochures showing places to visit/information about the surrounding area. That would be a great addition. some facilities being renovated.. not intrusive, just not available.. Appreciated having proper glass mugs and drinking glasses. Nice touch. Terrible that America and Canada use polystyrene now in all the rooms. Even when u pay $300 per night. Lazy and poor taste. Poor lighting in rooms and hallways. The lighting was a little too dim, but still not a big issue. Lack of bar (but it's soon to come). There could be a few more breakfast snacks. Although the staff was friendly, it depends upon which one you got to talk with. Some seemed more pre-occupied with the telephone and/or computer screen when I needed to ask questions. the room needs a safety deposit box somewhere, as well as a shelf or two in the shower. the table in our room was cool but not very stable. i couldn't find a shoe horn either. small things, but the devil is in the details. personally, i don't think the room we stayed in was really worth $200/night, perhaps $125 tops, but maybe i'm wrong. Nothing. everything was great. The area is a 'up and coming' so a little rough at night but nothing unusual for any inner city and didn't put me off walking home alone at night. Décor is dark so an extra light or two in the room would be okay. Could be noisey if had noisey people on same floor Would've been nice if staff had told us about free muffin and coffee breakfast rather than us finding out ourselves. For me, rooms very small, but on the other hand how much time do you spend in them when you are there to explore the city. No restaurant on site. On arrival, we noticed the toilet was not working. (This should have been picked up by the cleaning staff). Reception staff was very apologetic and toilet was fixed a few hours later. Then, the shower knob stopped working!. The hallways don't smell clean. No parking at hotel. Surrounding area bit rough (number of beggars)but we did not have any problems. Parking a hassle. Not really a problem, when you arrive by car there is 15min sidewalk parking available at the hotel and then a valet parks your car. It can take up to 20 min to have your car brought back. Account for that if you are in a hurry, I wasn't. Better breakfast selection. Also some extra fruit for breakfast - oranges as well would be nice. Nothing. Another elavator would be nice,. - The cost for Valet Parking was a bit much - no breakfast included. Parking is $20 per day, $25 if you valet park. We never used our car the entire time we were there, so there really wasn't a reason we needed to pay the additional $5 per day. fitness room is so tiny .... I thought, being in Montreal, the continental breakfast might have offered a cut above the usual horrible muffins and mediocre coffee which we always ignore. If you offer this feature do it well, especially in a city with such excellent offerings.
