  This is a little out of the way and not easy to get to with public transportation, but we were extremely happy we made the effort to stop here. We very much enjoyed our stay here. The house and rooms were clean, comfortable, and incredibly charming. The hosts were very nice and friendly, and breakfast was delicious and they are able to accommod... hva folk sier » ate vegetarians. This is part of a working stables and it was very nice to get a more genuine experience and it felt less touristy than a big city. - A great welcome, Friendly, Clean, Would have stayed longer but we was booked in across the road at the Craig y nos castle which i'm sorry the rooms are not worth the money at £150 per night but this B & B is 100% Worth the money for £65 per night so me and my husband recommend this totally.

Fantastic breakfast and very quiet but also very near the centre. Lots of eating places nearby.   The location is beautiful and peaceful and the staff were friendly and charming. We stayed in the Premier Suite (Room 14) with stunning views overlooking the small lake to the front from the bedroom and the paddock/fields with horses and sheep to the side from the sitting room. Excellent thought given to the little extras from the toiletries to the hair dryer and hot wate - The eye for detail, from knowing my name the moment I entered the hotel, showing me my room, explaining the various routines and opportunities. I really liked the flexibility, when I said I would like to have dinner, immediately I was offered a table outside in the beautiful weather, overlooking a lake and farmland. The staff were terrific, nothing was too much trouble.

  This is a very olde worlde Tudor timbered building with loads of character in a beautiful country setting. The very old door into our bedroom was about 5ft high, I am 6ft 3in but this only added to the interest and the on suite room itself was clean, spacious and comfortable with nice views from the windows. Small and cosy. You walk into cosy lounge with roaring fire, lovely! Staff so helpful,polite and friendly. Lovely afternoon tea/sandwiches/soups. lovely meals/breakfast. If you like small and cosy, this is the place. Beautiful grounds/views and 5mins from Newtown by car. Really lovely place to relax and would return. I was in main building, there are seperate quarters in the grounds.

I stayed in an ETAP the night before and it was much more expensive and of much less quality. - the location only 200 yards from the bowls where i was playing at 9.30 so no rush to get up and eat a breakfast served from 8am til 9am

  Everything! The rooms were full of character and contained everything you'd need. The staff were very helpful and the food was great! The price was nothing to complain about either! - Overall it was one of the best three star hotels I have stayed in. By far better than many four star rated hotels

  My wife and I were only staying at Portland House for one night, to break up our journey down to South Wales, so I was particularly impressed by the way that we were so warmly welcomed by owner Ruth. She was very friendly and helped us to relax as soon as we arrived. Room was spacious and tastefully decorated. Breakfast (full British) was delicious and arrived quickly when ordered. Ruth, the hard-working co-owner/receptionist/waitress/chef(!), was very friendly and helpful - it was nice to get a text from her a couple of days before my arrival asking what time

  Made very welcome on arrival. I had asked for a room on a lower floor and was given one of the "chalets" at the side of the pub. This more than suited our needs. We ate in the pub that evening and the food and the service were first class, as was the breakfast. - Very attentive staff. Lovely home cooked food that was well presented and tasty.
