I enjoyed City Club more than any NYC hotel in which I've stayed in the past (incl. Times Square Westin and Marriott Marquis). When I arrived, the staff had my suitcase inside the hotel before I was even out of the taxi. The door was opened for me almost every single time I went in or out, regardless of the hour of day or night. Hotel was very modern, clean and beautifully decorated. Staff were very friendly and helpful, delicious cookies were left in your room every evening . Location was good if you want to be close to midtown attractions but is quite a hike down to downtown where I wanted to spend most of my time in NY, although it is a nice walk.

The location was close to all Broadway shows, shopping and dining. We were looking for a room that accomodated three adults for a brief ovenight stay. Same for soda and snacks. $3+ for a 12 oz. can of soada is just ludicrous but it's the same with all hotel's in-room wet bars, so this is something I don't like about all hotels rather than this one in particular. Some street noise but not too bad.The view on the second floor with construction material on the roof. My only problem was the room size. It was a bit on the small side for 4or 5 people at the price we paid. However, this is to be expected forNew York. Especially somewhere so central. Its worth the extra money forthe location, and the experience of being in central New York. All thepros outweigh this small con. You dont go to New York to stay in yourhotel room!. Not a lot of hanging space in the wardrobe, but this classifies as a quibble rather than a dislike. There were three people staying in our room, but staff had to be reminded we were not just two several times.There should have been an espresso machine. No coffeemaker in room, no bedside light and no drawer space for clothes.No daylight in the room but hey it's new York ;-). The fact that there was no functional fan in the washroom created a lot of steam when taking a shower. At that price, there should be a flat screen tv in the room.Small closets and no coffee except in the Bistro. Building revovations next door specially with work during the night.I know it's New York City, but the room was pretty darn small for the price, and there was absolutely no view. it's true that the rooms are quite dark too dark; caution, they charge 1$ for each toll free calls!!!. The room they gave us was situated on the first floor(all night long there was noice of the carbidge cars, cleaning cars, shouting people et. We didn't sleep. The 1 glass of the window was not double, the fan was very loud. Room was not so big and air conditioning was really noisy. first night they didn't have a room for us, so they sent us to another hotel. for one day there was no warm water in the bathroom .

The old City Club premises provided a non-partisan atmosphere where Democrats and Republicans would convene to discuss politics of the day. Originally commissioned in 1901 and completed in 1904, the building housed function rooms, public and private reception rooms, offices, and sleeping quarters for members laid out in the same arrangement as today.

Sold in 1939 to become an office building, then the headquarters of the American Plywood Association, in the 1970s it was again turned into offices.

Jeff Klein bought the site in 1999 with his partners Forthright Development and Stephen Brighenti, returning it to its original glory as a gentleman's club with sleeping quarters, and restoring its original name.

The handsome rooms feature hand-drawn plaster walls, Honduran mahogany, Frette bed linen, feather down beds, waxed cork flooring, polished bronze, silvered mica, and matte limestone.

All accommodations have bathrooms drenched in luscious chocolate marble, and feature chrome fixtures with C.O. Bigelow bath products. Included in each space is a unique blend of abstract art, framed old New York maps and playbills, vintage books and even old vinyl records mounted in Plexiglass squares.
