St Michaels Manor is an unexpected find in the heart of St Albans. From arrival at Reception until departure all of the staff were friendly and very accommodating. I was upgraded upon arrival though did not ask to be. The garden room was luxurious and comfortable overlooking the lake and gardens. Although there were weddings on both nights of my stay these did not, in anyway, disrupt the enjoyment of the break. The food was excellent. Mazz on the bar is to be commended for his care, atten.
all reviews » Everyone who staffed the hotel, the architectural and interior design, the Japanese influence seen through the selected artifacts and furniture all enriched the ambiance of St.Michael's Manor. The surrounding environment is beautiful. Just go and stay at this hotel. It is magnificent. Although the hotel was very busy due to a wedding reception and we were very grumpy on arrival due to not being able to find a parking place, the on-duty manager treated us with great courtesy directing us to park right by the front door! Food at dinner and breakfast was excellent. We stayed there for the graduation ceremony in the nearby St Albans Cathedral. The room/suite was superb, the staff friendly and accommodating and the accommodation and facilities were first class. We would definitely stay there again, and probably more than once. Beautiful setting with the lake - resident heron & kingfisher! Easy walk to cathedral, city centre and Roman Verulamium remains. Everything just perfect: comfortable quiet room, excellent dinner & breakfast, staff friendly and attentive. First class!. The setting within beautiful grounds. Places to sit outside on the terrace or by the pond. Beautiful elegant and an interesting history of renovation. The set menu for dinner was superb and marvellous value. The staff were freindly, smart and relaxed. We travelled from a distance for a wedding and requested an early check in which the hotel advised they couldn't guarantee but said they would provide a place for us to freshen up. In the event the room was ready and we checked in early. There was a nice welcome from friendly staf, we were show to our lovely room which was comfortable and had a fab bed and everything we needed. The food was top class. Friendly reception, lovely room, beautiful gardens and conservatory. Close to great pubs, restaurants and St Albans Abbey, grounds and Roman museum. lovely setting the well kept gardens and lake were very nice room with 4 poster bed we both enjoyed our short stay very much. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was beautiful. The food was excellent and the grounds were stunning. To be able to walk in to St Albans. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was lovely. Everything. Close to city. Cannot fault the hotel but... Fishpool Street, the road to St Michaels is extremely narrow and should be one way. Our room was a bit stuffy. Nothing. The only grumble! A small child in the dining room in evening, who was still there at 9.30pm, who became (naturally) restless and bored and was rather noisy, disruptive and allowed to run around the tables! Not on I'm afraid. A sleeping baby is not a problem, but I don't won't to have my meal and the wonderful ambiance spoilt by the atmosphere of a nursery. Breakfast only being served until 9.30am!!. Breakfast bacon always hard, either pre-cooked or over cooked. Bread and toast was cheap sliced variety. Breakfast food not really up to rest of hotel standard. nothing. It is not a cheap option. I wish I could stay there more often but it is at the top end of my budget - special occasions only. Nothing could find a single fault. Restaurant and Bar were extremely fancy/formal. Can't think of anything. Noisy during the night as there were workmen relaying the kitchen floor. Nothing to dislike. Restaurant food was lovely, but ridiculously small portions on the Lake Menu. I mentioned in our booking that the visit was for our Pearl wedding anniversary and thought that you may have supplied a little extra touch. breakfast was cold. BatRoom Service breakfasthroom. Nothing. Being treated like second class citizen as there was a wedding on but still paid £205.00 for terrible service all guests should be treated the Same shouldn't they?.
