Stunning views overlooking Rutland Water are offered at The Finch’s Arms, a 17th-century country inn in the pretty village of Hambleton. It provides elegant, chic rooms with luxury toiletries and cosy bathrobes.
Light and modern, every room includes a sleek private bathroom with a walk-in shower or roll-top bath. Some rooms boast views over Rutland Water, and all rooms also include a flat-screen TV, mineral water, and tea/coffee facilities.
With beamed ceilings and historic, original features, the cosy bar provides hearty meals, real ales, and an open fire. The restaurant serves fresh, seasonal dishes, made with local produce.
The shores of Rutland Water are just a 10-minute walk away, and various watersports can be enjoyed on the water. Horse riding is offered in the nearby Bluebell Woods, which is 15 minutes’ drive away.

What people say
High standard of service from everyone. The lack of formality and appreciation that we were straying there. Quality and variety of food was excellent from breakfast through afternoon tea and dinner. Our existing familiarity with the menus was one of the main reasons for staying. Room was comfortable and well serviced. We shall return to The Finchs in the Spring.
It would be easier just to copy and paste from all of the many positive reviews, great location, lovely rooms, friendly staff, superb food in the restaurant , great breakfast.. need i say more?. all reviews »
Great location, wonderful 17th century building, beautiful setting with view on the lake (recommend the room with balcony), excellent restaurant, also on terrace (for afternoon tea), brilliant!.
Beautiful location and very friendly staff - food most enjoyable and well presented. Would be happy to stay any time.
My wife is slightly disabled and could have done wqith a handle in the shower. Every thing else was excellent.
Really friendly staff and excellent food. Our room was exceptional with views over Rutland Water.

Food excellent.
- Location
- Excellent food
- Comfortable beds
- Great shower.
The three course meal was beautiful.
In common with so many hotels these days the lighting in the bathroom was poor.
Our room had double doors which opened - nice facility but couldn't help being worried in case a small child went into the room as it was most dangerous when the doors were open - hardly any railing. Suggest making it safer.
Nothing all good and look forward to visiting again.
Only one night so not nearly enough.
No shower cubicle. Just hand held shower over bath.
Having people push in front at the bar
Very slow service both at lunch and breakfast.
minimalist decor & furnishings.
Bottom of bath was badly pitted. Had to ask for coffee/tea at breakfast. Cup was dirty. Someone else's bill was added to ours! Bathroom door had a loose hinge and door wouldn't shut properly. Very small robes supplied.
Lack of storage in bedroom, lack of shelving to accomadate toiletries in bathroom. No slipmat in shower.
- Very hard to find - name of hotel obscured!
- Small room
- Very noisy
- Too few staff
- No luggage rack in room
- Constant to-ings and fro-ings from staff into laundry room opposite our room, plus loud conversations outside our door.
No place to sit if you just want a drink at the bar, had water coming in
our ceiling in the middle of the night! No offer of room change or a
discount! Bed was very creaky, Toilet seat was broken! Then was no water
on our last morning.
