The nicest place we have stayed where dogs are truly welcome. Our stay was very relaxing and not over priced and your staff were chatty and very welcoming. We came on a very sunny weekend where we enjoyed drinks in the court yard in the afternoon which was very nicely kept. We even managed to sit out and have our breakfast and read the morning papers in the sun, very relaxing. As it happened there was no weddings on the weekend we stayed which probably made it a lot quieter than usual. I believ.
all reviews » This hotel never stops amazing me. I can not describe how brilliant the hotel is. We got married at the hotel a few years ago & returned to celebrate our anniversay. The hotel upgraded us to the honeymoon suite without us asking. They greeted us as we checked out and wished us "a happy anniversary" Its service that you rarely see anymore and just makes our memories go on & on. Thank you for treating us as 5* guests and making an amazing stay. Lovely hotel with a courtyard so sit out in weather permitting! The rooms were clean and comfortable and breakfast was good. The hotel is in a beautiful location just a short walk to the Rutland waters. Visited Oakham which a nice little town within 3 miles. The Grainstore brewery near the train station in Oakham is well worth a visit if you like real ale. We were pleased to find we had been rebooked into the same room. The wifi connection seemed better this time. The gardens and meadow were in full bloom, so looked stunning and provided a lovely walk each morning/evening. The dinner menu was more varied and the quality was excellent. We looked our two day break away and can't wait to rebook for the autumn. The room was lovely and large and was extremely comfortable. The hotel had some beautiful, quaint rooms and it's location was lovely on a snowy weekend. The conservatory was wonderful to dine in although a tad chilly but had a very lovely atmosphere. Some really great service from individuals although this wasn't consistent. Really nice breakfast. The main thing that stood out about Barnsdale was very helpful staff. All the reception staff I met were delightful. And the staff were very bike friendly. I was moved from a single to a double room on my request when a friend joined me during my stay, without charging extra. Highly recommended!. Lovely retreat atmosphere in beautiful surrounds. The very attentive staff ensured our stay was perfect. We loved the dining room conservatory looking over the garden and enjoyed the delicious meals. Excellent value for money and we have already recommended Barnsdale Lodge to friends. We really enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and comfortable. Dinner was very good, and made more enjoyable by the Jazz Band that played throughout. The receptionist was most helpful. As it was our wedding anniversary we couldn't have picked a better hotel. We had a very good experience. Our room for £79 was the best we have ever had in a Hotel. It was Large, Clean and Bright with easy access to the Car Park. The staff were very good and went the Extra mile with any requests. The restaurant was reasonably priced. We liked the attitude of all the staff ,excellent customer service. We liked the fact we were offered an ice bucket and glasses for a glass of wine prior to dinner in our room. We liked the cosy atmosphere and general decor. We thought the food was excellent ,. A beautiful hotel with an excellent restaurant. Our room was spacious and comfortable with quality furniture. Coffee-making equipment featured a cafétiere, delicious ground coffee including decaff. and delicious biscuits. The room was lovely, the bed was comfortable. It was dog friendly. The staff were really helpful and accomodating as I have quite a restricted diet due to allergies. It was a relaxing stay with fun out on the croquet lawn. Fantastic service from the moment we arrived, a lovely relaxing hotel, we'll be back to try one of the Retreats next time for a long weekend. staff friendliness location to small towns little extras ... bottled water, lovely toiletries really nice rooms with lovely antique furniture. we were able to relax in the courtyard for most of our meals, and despite the extra work the staff were unflustered and uniformly pleasant. nothing. Everything was fantastic. This was our second visit with our dog. Although it is the most dog friendly and welcoming hotel we've been to, this time there was nothing in the room for our dog, despite the fact we paid £10 per night to have her with us. Last time we came there was a welcome pack, a dog bed and a water bowl, which we planned for and expected this time. We were disappointed by the absence of this. I don't think the food was as delicious as it could have been. It had great promise in reading the menu but fell a little short. Generally nice but not amazing. A couple of things housekeeping problems. My teapot was really dirty at breakfast and there were dirty food splashes on a couple of chairs and the radiator. Nothing. We had the top two twins next to the beauty room. Great to be together althoough it felt the beds were old,. Some road noise but only when the window was open. Too sunny in the conservatory at breakfast!. Having to leave. Leaving. Expensive evening meal compared to what we usually pay. (Perhaps a range of cheaper meals for those staying at Barnsdale). We went out on an evening to find a less expensive meal. No negative comments. 10/10. Nothing to comment on. Blankets on the bed. Prefer duvets. Had to point out that well of loo needed a good dose of bleach. Only thing that let this down for us was the heater did not work in our room (14), there was a portable heater but it did not feel safe to leave this on so took some time to get warmed up. Did report to reception who informed us an electrcian had been notified. No details of menus in the hotel facilites folder provided in the rooms. I actually viewed online from my room or I would have had to go to the restaurant to get a menu just to decide if I wanted to use the restaurant. Nothing. The service during the day was not a patch on the evening. We were the last down for breakfast (but still before 10am) due to my husband having a fall in the bathroom. We sat down in the conservatory and were basically ignored. I had to ask the waitress who was re-laying tables if we could order some tea and hot food. I don't know how long we would have sat there for if not!. There was a deal of noise from the occupants in the room above moving around. The meal costs were too high for normal family dining and we would have liked to see an alternative menu for everyday dining. Room was a bit on the small side (No 11) with only one chair. The first room was over the bar area and not well insulated so no sleep until bar closed at 2.30 am. Second room had a distinctly bad drain smell in the bathroom. Found the only way to deter the smell was to sleep with a coat across the gap under the bathroom door!. couldn't fault anything!. when we has to leave :(. Breakfast was a little disappointing - in particular the cold mushrooms!. Seems a bit picky really, but one or two breakfast staff members weren't up to scratch - slow to respond, didn't remove dirty plates and other such small things. Like I say, seems a bit picky but at other times the staff were excellent. The loos in the main house were very dated. The staff left the window behind the bar open and it was cold, and the staff were a bit noisy in the afternoon. It was a shame no body lit the chimeneas. No room for a bedside table on my side of the bed.(small point). Unfortunately we were over the car park this time. VERY thin roller blinds with a street light at room level on all night like Blackpool illuminations!!! It was fortunate I had my flight eye shade with me or I wouldn't have slept. The room could also do with an electric fan in this unusually hot weather as the upstairs room held the heat. Leaf blower was blasting out under our window over breakfast time in our room. No dislikes. Dinner menu was unimaginative and not particularly 'local' which was a shame given the local food specialities. as an elderly couple, we could not get into bath to shower.room 10. One daughter found bed uncomfortable.Room 140. Nothing.... It's a pretty great place!!. We had to leave !. No complaints. Blankets on the bed - but on our return we received a personal phone call from the Manager saying we could have asked for a duvet instead. There was only a duvet on the double bed which due to the hot weather was too much. A sheet would have been nice. little bit cool in room on arrival as no central heating in that area. my wife got a badly-upset tummy after eating the crab main course!.
