Spacious rooms. - Hotel is close to the lake, and next to the funicular to Monte San Salvatore - quiet neighborhood - room with terrace - swimming pool (although quite small and cold water) - free wifi (only in the lobby, range not good enough for the first floor) - arrived late and the hotel's private parking was full, had to park in a public garage which was alright, payed 10 CHF for the night. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean. The location is good for our personal purpose and it is very close to the lake. For those who are not in a hurry and like to stroll along the lake, it is a nice 10 to 20 minutes walk to the Piazza della Riforma. Staff at the reception very friendly, and besides Italian all of them were fluent in German, English and French. Large room with comfortable beds. The location is good and since I was upgraded the room was spacious and with a balcony. location. facilities were a bit questionable- said it had 2 swimming pools and a sauna and gym- the gym was 4 machines in a row, the sauna was dark dingy and smelly (I would not go in there), and the swimming pools looked a bit forgotten about. We didn't use any of the hotel facilities, but it didn't matter because we were on holiday to explore Lugano. Even if the room was cosy and nice, there were some Problems: the window of the balcony was broken, it always opened itself; and the central light was also broken, I had to use the two small lights Close to the bed. - Wifi missing in the back building. Poor design of the rooms, reminds Soviet Union. Too white, medicine white rooms. The address is given as Laguno but it is actually in Paradiso the next town. As both towns have streets of the same name as that of the Calipso Hotel it caused confusion when trying to locate it!!. It got a little hot during the day. No air conditioning, only a fan, so keep the shades drawn and you should be okay. No complaints. wi fi only in lobby. 1 star hotel maximum. Seems it was decorated 30 years ago or even more. Clean but smells like grandma's storeroom. Beware of pool if you don't have winter swimming experience - water temperature about 15-17C. Considering the price, the breakfast should definitely have been included (+CHF10/person/night). In fact, breakfast was included the previous time we stayed there. Breakfast starts at 07:30, which may be too late for a business traveller. The best years of the Calipso were probably the early 80s. A great deal of construction going on in the area. No mini bar in the room. Very few TV channels. this is not a 3-stars hotel. The p,ace was very dated, shower space was extremely small, wi-fi was available only in the reception area. I would never stay in this place again. Does not worth the money.
