The room was really traditional and lovely. Typical Japanese Inn, in which I really - Some facilities may need renovation but the ryokan itself is very clean and comfortable. In each of our double rooms there was a shower and additionally every evening it was possible to soak and relax in a hot o-furo (public bath). The ryokan is located in the centre of Kyõto, near Higashiyama or Gion, but in a small street so it isn't noisy at all. The little Japanese-style indoor garden is really cute and so Japanese! ;-) The rooms are also very traditional and just a bit old-fashioned.

  My wife and I stayed there and was very warmly welcomed by the staff. My wife is pregnant but we found sleeping on the tatami mattress comfortable. Aircon works well and the room and toilet was very clean. Also try the set breakfast which you have to pre-order, it was a delicious home-cooked meal. - Decided to get a room with a view of the Japanese garden, was definitely worth the extra money. The staff were exceptionally patient with our limited language ability and extremely helpful in regard to local information and travel questions. The room was very quiet and exceptionally clean, I would definitely recommend staying here, especially for those travelling with jr Pass as the location is very near the rail station.

They are so friendly and it was really nice learning about their lives in Kyoto, as well as pick up some origami/calligraphy writing. Highly recommended!

  This was a very minimal Japanese style hotels with just futons to sleep on the Tatami. The a/c worked great and the showers were powerful. Small details that added to the experience, each night when the staff had laid out the futon there would be a folded origami (new one every day!) beside the pillow together with a small text saying something along the lines of "We hope you had a great day". I opted for dinner 5 out of my 7 days... what people say » , and the dinner was great. The staff who served the dinner on the room was helpful and took their time explaining what the food was and how it was to - Wow! Staying at Nissho Besso was one of the best hotel experiences ever!! This top-end traditional Japanese ryokan dishes out luxury and service like you could never imagine. From the origami and personalised notes on my mattress in the evenings, to the amazing breakfasts (different every morning) and stunning service levels ....always provided with a smile. This great property will be a key reason for returning to Kyoto as soon as possible.
