  We were offered free upgrade to a villa when they do not have any non-smoking room available. The place is extremely comfortable and cosy. Our room was upgraded to a suite close to Gion Hatanaka. The suite was large, quiet and comfortable. We also enjoyed the kaiseki dinner as well as Geisha show. It was marvellous. The hotel staff was professional and helpful. They could communicate in English. I wish I could stay longer.

A minute away was a nice breakfast place and in and around the station there were numerous eating places for dinner. I think he waited for our coming after I confirmed arrival time because while we were walking to find Ryokan and almost getting lost, he called us from in front of Ryokan. I was so impressed. I got a big clean room with garden view and not close to the street so it was quite and peaceful. This room is what I think when stay in ryokan. Love it.
