The rooms surround a lovely courtyard, and are arranged on three levels. this is a recovered stone building, next to a Han that has been in the family for 6 generations. The breakfast buffet is traditional, authentic and more than abundant. We didn't do the dinner buffet, but it looked great. Our room was clean, and furnished with local textiles, rugs and embroaderd linens - very nice, just as pictured. We were very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Surban hotel and it definitely did not feel like a cheap hotel. We arrived early in the morning after a gruelling overnight bus ride from Istanbul and although we were not paying to be there until that night the management welcomed us in, showed us to our room (where we had the most revitalizing showers and a quick snooze) and then gave us breakfast before we headed off to do a tour for the day. We stayed for 4 nights in this lovely hotel in a secluded valley in the village of Ayvali. The food was excellent with an extensive breakfast buffet and a set 4 course meal in the evening for €18 per head - though if you didn't fancy this the chef is happy to cook something different on request - just ask in the morning, we took advantage of this one evening to have a lighter meal after a big lunch. It was snowing when we arrived with our son and daughter-in-law, but the hotel was warm and the welcoming. Our room was basic but adequate for our needs. We liked it there. We got up early and walked up the hill, enjoying the view of a sky dotted with hot-air balloons. One night our charming host arranged (at a very reasonable cost) a typical Turkish meal for the four of us, with a delicious chicken casserole topped with a round flat loaf and an array of vegetable side dishes. The cave room at Cappadocia Palace was amazing. The room was spacious, bright and airy with a bed so cozy that the only thing that got me out of it in the morning was the scrumptious breakfast waiting for me in the dining hall. The bathroom was huge with excellent water pressure and temperature. The jacuzzi was a plus after all the hikes and tours. I also enjoyed the free internet access. The hotel is a step away from shopping, sights and restaurants/bars, but it's still very quiet. The staf - Mark
