We were upgraded to a superior room at no extra cost and which had clearly been recently renovated and was very nice indeed. Hotel location is also excellent for seeing the centre of Madrid. Despite being on a busy street double glazed windows blocked out almost all the noise. Breakfast was also pretty good.Front desk staff was friendly and very helpful. The noise from the street - but no fault of the hotel. Apart from our room, the rest of the hotel decor was quite kitsch and dated.A little more info would be nice when checking in (ie, where is breakfast, key policy, etc). It was not possible to regulate the temperature in the room. Too hot in the night, we had to open the window in order to be able to breathe, but it was very noisy on the streets which was a problem for quiet sleep. On the contrary, it was not really heated during the day. It should be possible to regulate the temperature in the room according to own needs.Restaurant only open for breakfast, no bar. The breakfast was poor. The location is very noisy at nught, we got very little sleep.5th floor, windows not sealed off, all the street noise present as if no window at all. the rooms were far to noisy from the street and we had 5 days with virtually no sleep from noise all night long on the street.You could hear every thing from rooms next door. No privacy at all.It was a two star hotel so I didn't expect the earth. It was fine for what I paid, no real complaints - just minor things like lack of English language TV channels or complimentary shampoo. the building is old, it would be nice if they refurbished it.Didn't like the room at all..was a bit smelly.. And old fashioned...hadto open door and bathroom windows sometimes to ventiliate and let theair circulate...those rooms needs reinnovations... Noise between rooms. The room was quite shabby, the bath already had hairs in it, and there was barely any natural light in the room. didnt like the constant noises during the whole night, coming from outside the hotel.triple room was so tight that we felt like sardines packed in a tin can.we found a better place the next day which was much cheaper.this hotel is NOT value for money.
