which is about a 10 minute walk straight down Calle Atocha); the young,
ultra-helpful staff was a pleasure to deal with - they are sharp people
and we found no shortage of good English among them.

I rarely give top marks on the grounds there should always be room for some improvement but I'm struggling to find any fault with the Catalonia Atocha. Within half an hour of booking I received a "welcome" email from the hotel with detailed and useful information on how to find the hotel whatever the mode of transport, I’ve never had this before from an hotel, it boded well and I was not disappointed.
Without exception the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, and equally happy to speak

The location is good for all the major transport sites - The bed - they make a point about their comfortable beds and it's true. Also the interior room was very peaceful and the room was a good size. Very convenient for Atocha station as well as the Prado. Nice area.

The hotel was what I would consider a 5 star. The decor were very modern, very comfortable, immaculate. The shower was spacious and had three different shower heads. A nice touch for the weary traveler.
There was a young man at reception who was very pleasant and eager to help with various dirrections to events and sightseeing -

We really enjoyed our stay and everything was beyond expectation. Perfect position for seeing everything Madrid has to offer. Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff - either well trained or the hotel is very lucky! We will definitely return to Madrid and the Radisson Blu will be our first choice of accommodation. In early Aug 2013, it was very hot in Madrid. I arrived to find there was no aircon in any room due to a generator failure. Too tired to relocate I stayed anyway. It was a very hot and uncomfortable night. The following day, management were quick to apologize, gave the first night free and upgraded my status to include b'fast for all 3 mornings of

Hotel is renovated and is very trendy, our room was good and clean.
Cleaning was done well. We had no problems at all. We didn't take
breakfast so cannot comment on it. It is well situated, with a tube stop
just 3 minutes walk from the door. All major tourists sites are withing
walking distance, Plaza del Sol only 5-7 mins away (Prado musem is about
15-20 minutes, so as Plaza Espania).

From the moment you approach this hotel you feel welcome. The staff are true professionals who are happy to go the extra mile. The rooms are small but perfectly formed with wonderful design touches and very efficient a/c and water pressure. The food is excellent and good value, although the breakfast at first seems expensive, the choices are amazing and well worth it. But what really makes this hotel is the staff.
