all reviews » Lots of 1920s - 1930s character which to me is essentially NYC's architectural heritage. Friendly, helpful staff all around, including room maid service. Relaxed but organized atmosphere. Doormen value-added service with 'touch of style'. Terrific location near to the Lincoln Centre and Metropolitan Art Gallery. Great variety of reasonably priced restaurants nearby including fine dining at the Nice Matin in the hotel itself to first rate sandwiches at the Amsterdam Deli across the street. E. The friendliness and flexibility of the stuff! We arrived very early in the morning, thinking we will only be able to leave our luggage and check-in later in the afternoon, but we were told we could get a room. Not only that, they told us it's not the best room they can offer, so they offered us to change our room in the next day. The location is great - we like to start our mornings with some physical activity, so having the central park two blocks to the east and the Hudson river park two bl. The Lucerne is a gorgeous boutique hotel on the upper west side. We stayed for 7 nights with our 2 young children. The staff were fantastic, very helpful. It was cleaned to perfection each day by house keeping. The subway station is just at the end of the block so it is very convenient for travelling to other parts of NYC, and it is just a short walk to Central Park. Lots of great restaurants and deli's nearby. Loved the area. It felt like you were livng in NY instead of being a tourist in the . Enjoyed a fun week in NY City. The Lucerne is a small but comfortable hotel. Good location, close to Central Park, many museums, art galleries, restaurants, and shopping! Great neighborhood to stroll in, pretty, and much quieter than mid and downtown. Had room with small sitting area and kitchenette which was useful. Restaurant Nice Matin was fantastic. Delicious food, good service and lovely atmosphere - had dinner there twice, and breakfast once. Would recommend it highly. Very pleasant and helpful staff, very convenient location near to 79 St subway. Good sound insulation - very quiet. Nice large, clean room. The in-house restaurant Nice Matin is very good and has an extraordinary wine list - if you have deep pockets. I have seldom seen 5 different vintages of Haut Brion including a 1955 on a wine list anywhere. The very pleasant and knowledgeable sommelier suggested a Napa Valley Merlot which was superb. The location is excellent. A wee bit removed from insanity of common tourist areas which makes it an oasis of calm but easy walk/subway. Well located near many restaurants and shops of Broadway and Amsterdam. Lovely walk to Central Park. Rooms were large enough, tastefully decorated and we loved the windows that opened. Staff were incredibly professional. Building is gorgeous & well maintained. Restaurant is delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful and quick to respond. The location is excellent -- one block to the 79th Street subway stop on Broadway, one block to the eastbound 79th Street crosstown bus, across the street from the westbound 79th Street crosstown bus. Lincoln Center is two subway stops away and also walking distance. The hotel is very quiet, the staff very friendly, the rooms well furnished and very clean. There are lots of good restaurants within a short walk. We loved the queen deluxe room with two queen beds and which actually had an additional room with small sofa and t.v. as well as a small fridge and microwave oven - perfect for traveling with kids. We especially enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the room. It was luxurious having so much space in NYC. The rooms and bathroom were nicely appointed and very clean. We were on the 7th floor and found it quiet. We had trouble with our first room. The manager was very helpful and rectified the situation by giving us an upgraded room. This room was very nice. We thought the location of the hotel was good within a 20 minute walk of Central Park and about 10 minutes from the Lincoln Center. We like walking and this was ideal for us.The hotel was in the Upper West Side which is a quiet area with many ammenities. The check-in and check-out were very friendly and efficient. The bell staff was also very good. I was upgraded to a suite, which was a nice touch and very much appreciated. The suite was clean and well appointed, with a large walk-in closet. This is an older building, but everything was very well maintained and the finishes had been fairly recently upgraded, or at least they looked that way. I never sleept better in any Hotel bed in my life then at the Lucern. even the pillows were nice and soft and I did not wake up with a stiff neck. I liked the location too, close to Central Park and also close to the Metro. The Consierge was also very helpfull and was well informed. I also enjoyed the Restaurant, thank you!. This hotel was a gem! The location was perfect for visiting the Museum of Natural History and plenty of great places to dine. We were definitely pleased with the friendliness and the cleanliness of this hotel - impeccable! Oh - and there was a Keurig in the room with complimentary K cups - that is classy!!! We loved it!. I arrived very late at night, but the bell staff and desk assistant were quick to help me with my bags and finding a place to eat. They even found me a parking space on the street for free. I was upgraded and on a high floor (both excellent pluses). The room was immaculate, European décor and very comfortable. Friendly staff.Comfortable room.Housekeeping noticed that the bathtub was not draining and called maintenance right away. Free wireless. When I was having trouble printing a document, was able to print to hotel email and get the print from the front desk. Excellent breakfast at the restaurant next door. It is close to the subway and easy walking distance to restaurants, Central Park and the Met. Beds were very comfortable. A small wardrobe and a bathroom is not calculated for two adults and a child. Having only one ice machine down on the 2nd floor is a minor inconvenience. I would highly recommend this hotel except the mattresses were a bit too soft and unsupportive. The mattress is the most important thing in a hotel room (for us) so this fact alone would make me hesitate staying here again. The bathroom was very small. However, we were often out for 12 hrs a day so it didn't really bother us and it is the case for most hotels in NYC. Not many complaints. Sometimes could hear noise from hallway but was not bothersome. Closet was on small side, but plenty of drawers to store clothes. Difficult to criticise, except perhaps the air con / heat pump in the room was a bit noisy. The pipes were a wee bit noisy in the morning when other guests were getting ready. But this is to be expected in a building built in 1904. It was not overly annoying. Vending machine out of water bottles (but sodas and snacks still available for $1-$2 in vending/ice area) and in room water bottle for $6 (passed on that). Everything else truly great. Nothing at all. All was very good. The hotel is not in a quiet neighborhood - 79th St. Is a major cross- town street, meaning traffic going in both directions, and it is near the intersection with Amsterdam Ave. My room was on the front of the hotel - not a problem for me because I sleep with earplugs, but a person who values a quiet room would want to ask for a room well away from the front. I can't think of anything. The only recommendation I would make would be to put a mirror above the desk in the main room so that if a family is traveling and someone is hogging, I mean using the bathroom, others can continue to get ready in the main room!. The hotel is under remodel currently, so the main lobby entrance is closed off and there are construction signs throughout the main floor. Not that big a deal. A strange thing. We found that there was an awful amount of noise emanating from the next room every time their bathroom was used.. So much so that the sound of water turned on for a shower next door drowned out the television sound completely in our room! Faulty plumbing? Needs to be looked at urgently. N/A. Unavoidable, I know. But the Lucerne is pricey. But the convenience is some real compensation for the cost. I found the room lacked sound proofing and you can hear a bit too much of what is going on in adjacent rooms and in the corridor. When people get in at 2 a.m. and chatter, this can be troubelsome. Striking variation (warm or indifferent at best) greeting by front desk staff and doorpersons. This in contrast to previous prior visits. IT makes a difference. Need to ask for a coffee maker to be brought to the room. Should be routinely provided. No makeup mirror in bathroom; price (I know it's NYC but still expensive); room too warm. My only complaint, and it's nit-picky, were the *pod* coffee makers, which I see more and more of. I like to bring my own coffee to drink in the morning. But there was no shortage of places to grab a cup. Nothing really. Everything was great. The location was not the best for us. I chose it for the quiet neighborhood, which it did have, but we constantly found ourselves going to mid-town. If you want quiet, this is the place, and there are plenty of nice little restaurants right within the block. If you want Times Square and Broadway shows, you would be better off finding a hotel in mid-town. Probably if I had to find fault which is hard. Maybe the room is a little small. However it is adequate. The room we had was a tad disorganized in the way it was laid out. It was described as a superior queen room, but was more like a standard double. I have had much better rooms at Lucerne before and hope the next time I am better pelased with the room assigned. I will say it was quiet and the value for money was excellent. The first night we arrived, there was no toilet paper hanging. The next day the gal didn't empty our bathroom trash or leave an extra roll of toilet tissue. This is the first time we ever had a problem with housekeeping. Maybe the gal was new to the job???. I arrived at 1:30pm and my room wasn't ready, which isn't unusual in a hotel. They stored my luggage. When I returned at six it still wasn't "quite" ready, not having any bedspreads. At eleven pm when I got back from dinner they were there. Without my saying anything though, they gave me an upgrade to an adorable suite. Everything was ok with only an exception of a single cockroach on the floor on Friday. - Price (315$ + taxes per night) - For only a couple of days in NY, maybe it is better to have a more central hotel in Manhattan. We could have had a more comfortable stay with a refrigerator for four overnight stays. A small refrigerator in the room would have been very nice. I know this is difficult, but it would have been nice to open the window part way for some fresh air. Bathroom a little small. Would have preferred 2 queen beds. Room was a little noisy; we could hear the man next door on the phone. Nothing really. This was our first time in NYC and the room was a bit small, but I gather this is normal for New York. The only negative comment I have about the accommodations is this. During our last stay, I felt the carpet in our room could have been cleaner.it was obviously vacumed but possibly not shampooed for a while. A pair of white socks I wore only in the room were obvious soiled after walking on the carpet. Room a little small. No dislikes at all. Nothing really. Not so much didn't like, but just a bit disappointed with small size of sitting room in the 2 queen bed suite. would have like more chairs for sitting and a king instead of 2 queens. They apparently have discontinued their afternoon wine/cheese gathering. The staff did not seem as friendly as prior visits. We chose a double/double b/c of price and although it was nice the 3 of us were cramped in the space.
