The hotel staff were wonderful-very friendly and helpful. The hotel was in a great location for my conference, which had events at the Egan Center (a block away) and the Hilton (half a block the other direction). Also, great location for exploring Anchorage. We were just around the corner from the Visitor Center, which has tour trolleys and the free van to the Zoo. Within walking distance of the train station, museums, the waterfront, and many shops and restaurants.
all reviews » I have no complaints. I was in and out, stayed 5/7 nights on a week vacation. It was a solo vacation and I felt safe. I was greeted by name, had assistance for storage of belongings, obtaining a taxi, and recomendations for meals. They have internet and a printer to get your boarding pass. The bed and linen were great, I had back spasms and spent a fair amount of time resting. I would stay there again. I was EXTREMELY pleased with the Historic Anchorage Hotel comfort, facilities, cleanliness, staff and location. The staff was very helpful with suggestions for sightseeing. The hotel is centrally located to walk to numerous Anchorage sightseeing attractions. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. The location is perfect for touring Anchorage area. The rooms were very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was delicious and has a great atmosphere. The general manager was top notch. Location was ideal for downtown Anchorage. Reception staff were all excellent. We arrived early and the young lady on reception helped unload car, store cases and then transferred to room while we enjoyed exploring Anchorage. Friendly, helpful staff. Right in the city center. A very short walk to all places of interest and any activity in the city center. Easy parking. Comfortable rooms. Decent rates for a city center hotel. This small gentle hotel has a great central location. We stayed here upon arrival and departure and both times we had a large nice room. As a historic building that survived a massive earthquake, the building is quirky but, all in all, still in good shape. No paranormal activity. ( :. No one told us the hotel was haunted. Fortunately we had no visits as they must have been busy in other rooms. For the type of hotel that it is there's nothing to dislike. The wifi was weak at our far end of the hotel .. a LAN (wired) connection capability would have helped greatly. Breakfast is very basic. I found all Anchorage hotels very expensive, the price - quality is not really in proportion so I think this will be the case with many hotels in this city. Shocking. Literally. Touching a door handle or elevator button would get you quite a jolt. I expect a static shock every once in awhile, but this was a constant. They were having trouble with the wifi, so connection was sporadic. Bed was a bit hard and lumpy. I had trouble operating the TV, but gave up pretty quickly. Never eaten of paper plates in a hotel before, but it seems to be a trend in the US. No air conditioning and it was very warm when we arrived. Although they had large fans in the room - it was very difficult to sleep due to the heat. No air conditioning. nothing. I would like to see more diversity in the buffet breakfasts. Please put a cork screw in each room to open wine bottles. Older, dated rooms. Wi fi signal was sometimes difficult to maintain in our 3rd floor room. Breakfast was short on variety. Train got in so late and plane left earlier in morning so not much time to spend in room. The decor is a little tired and need of a refresh. Our room was on the corner at the junction of two roads and it was very noisy at night. Very noisy at night. Room was hot. Yes, in Alaska! So windows had to be open. Was once the big thing, but now run cheaply. Expensive. Heater works but weakly. A little bit cold in my room.
