Location to in the town and closeness to the ferry port and the hospitality and helpfulness of the owner. friendly clean environment. The size of the rooms. The rest. The suite was roomy although dated and we did enjoy the quiet. The staff showed concern.Rooms could do with a refurb.
But I believe this is in process. There was a smell all through the hotel, it felt as if they were updating but not completing rooms at a time. The air could have done with air freshners and a good clean in the bathroom and floors.all reviews »

Behind the facade of one of Scotland's oldest hotels is a hotel designed for life as it is today. All the rooms are either suites with one bedroom or apartments with 2 bedrooms. Each of the rooms has its own lounge for you to sit in comfort and you can even enjoy a carry-out meal at the table or in some of the suites you can make you own food on the basic cooker and microwave .
Your breakfast, if you require it, can either be a continental or a full Scottish, but whichever your choice it is brought to your room at the time you wish. Whilst the hotel does not have a restaurant that it runs, there is soon to be one on the premises run by others. However, this area is endowed with wonderful restaurants, and if you ask the hotel staff will point you in the direction of the food of your choice.
Philip and his sister Susan have both been in the industry for over 30 years and, for your convenience and pleasure, have tried to put this experience into this new style of hotel.

Information about the area
Castle of St. John (150 m) - A medieval tower house built circa 1500 by the Adairs of Kilhilt. Previously a home, court, prison and military garrison, it now houses a museum.
Castle Kennedy Gardens (5 km) - 147 acres of grounds containing numerous attractive features including lochs and a canal. Based on the famous gardens at Versailles.
Logan Botanic Gardens (24 km) - One of Scotland's most prominent botanical gardens, showcasing a wide variety of plants from all over the world. Several tropical areas are viewable.

Each room is individual, yet all are of the minimalist style. One room has a massage bed, another a sunken bath and another has a beautiful Victorian ceiling. Each room has something to make it different from the others.

From A75
- Enter the town and go straight across the 1st mini roundabout.
- Proceed to the second mini roundabout and turn right into Church Street.
- Turn right at the end into George Street.
- The hotel is the large pink building on the corner.
From A77
- Enter the town and continue straight across the large roundabout you will come to.
- Follow the road for 200 metres and turn left at mini roundabout.
- Take the 2nd left into Queen Street.
- At the end of the road, turn left into George Street.
- The hotel is along the road, on the left.
By train (from Stranraer Railway Station, 1.5 km)
- On foot, head south towards the main road (the A717).
- You will come to a roundabout, near Port Rodie. Cross this into Charlotte Street.
- Follow this until it becomes George Street, where the hotel is situated.
