What people say
We stayed in the deluxe double room, which is located at a seperate location from the Marine House Hotel. It is only a £3 taxi run if you can't be bothered walking. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner Fiona. Lovely lady who made us feel very welcome. This deluxe double room is the only room available at this location so we were the only guests. Just means that the owner can focus all her attention on the one set of guests to make it feel that bit for special. We used the swimming pool . all reviews »
We asked for the king size delux room, for this you don't stay in the main hotel you stay in the owners property on the shoreline. They couldn't do enough for us from our time of arrivel till we left... There is no bar or resteraunt at the main house but a 10 min walk gets you everything that you need. Rooms are spotless and decorated to a very high standered,,,breakfast was amazing , once you had that you didn't need to be looking for meals later ,,, and to top it all off you have use of the p.
I would like to stress that I stayed at Thornbank House and not the Marine Hotel. From beginning to end Fiona and her husband could not have been more helpful, even driving us to a restaurant in the evening. The house is wonderful and the facilities - including a pool and hot tub second to none. Our room was large and very comfortable. I have stayed in lots of lovely hotels and this is definitely up amongst the best.
Again, would reiterate that this feedback is for Thornbank House and not the M.
I have stayed at other hotels in Stranraer and always come back to
Marine House Hotel and would highly recommend staying at Marine House
Hotel. The staff are friendly and very helpful and rooms are pleasant and
comfortable and the food excellent quality and extremely good value for
money. It is situated with beautiful views over Lochryan and the town
centre amenities are only a few minutes pleasant stroll away.
Me & my brother stayed 4 1 night in a twin room as we were traveling by ferry early next morning we were goin 2 miss brekfast but the owner offered 2 make us a packed lunch 2 take with uz the ferry was only a few min drive away the place was a bit dated but was spotless the rooms were comfortable with everything u need flat screen tv on suite bathroom with shower coffee & tea facilities etc.
Was easy to find with lots of free parking .View of the sea , good size room and very clean, bed comfy all the usal facilities .Nice en suite, tea coffee, flat screen tv ect . Good choice at breakfast , cereal, fruit, yoguart for the healthy eater unlike me who had the full cooked.I would recommened this hotel for a stay easy access for ferries only 10 mins drive away and all for a resonable price.
everything was spotless and clean with a friendly owner, very comfy bedroom with a large bathroom with a jacuzzi bath, lots of lovely little extras like chocolates and hot choclolate, breakfasts were lovely and freshley made, excellent location so quite and peacfull with fab views of the sea and only a few yards from the beach and ten min walk to the town centre would definently be back.
We stayed at Thornbank House which was 2 mins drive from the main hotel.
The facilities here were very good, the room we were given had a sea view and a large luxurious en-suite bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. The house also had a swimming pool, sauna and hot tub which were shared with one other room. Fiona was most helpful and her breakfasts were good.
the whole experience was amazing, from the moment we arrived Fiona made us feel so welcome, Fantastic host, very approachable about anything, would recommend the Marine House Hotel to everyone, which I have already done. Two nights were not long enough, we hated having to leave, the best accommodation that I have ever stayed in by far.
The room was excellent with the addition of a steam shower enclosure, plus the use of a swimming pool and hot tub. Fiona and Jim were excellent hosts and during the transport disruptions because of the storms were extremely helpful. I would recommend staying there to anyone and will be calling there again on my next trip to Stranraer.
The Marine House hotel was easy to find , ideally located for the ferries and town, with free car parking and an extremley friendly welcome. The room was clean, well equipped, with TV, WIFI, tea/coffee, warm and an excellent breakfast. This hotel comes highly recommended for an overnight stay and great value for money.
Our stay was very relaxing. The room and bathroom were clean to very high standard. We were there for 2 nights for my husbands 50th birthday and we wanted to go to Ireland for a day. We were given champagne, strawberries and chocolates to celebrate my husband's birthday. A very nice touch.

Great hospitality, fantastic full Scottish breakfast. Superb facilities, including exclusive use of pool, sauna, jacuzzi. Large room with whirlpool bath. Five miles from Portpatrick, well worth a visit. Shortest route to Belfast from Cairnryan, off peak fare £5 early bird.

Fiona was very friendly. The house was amazing, large spacious and airy rooms, beds like fluffy clouds, jacuzzi bath and access to a swimming pool and meters away from the beach! What more could you ask for, all at a very reasonable rate.
The room was superb. the view were excellent. I also liked the size of the room which was decent sized. the couple who run the hotel are very friendly and accommodating. Very approachable and the food was excellent.

Also stayed at Thornbank House, which is 2 mins from Marine House Hotel. I agree with Martin from Ireland, but my comments only relate to to Thornbank House and to Fiona the owner. Did not go to the main hotel.
I had to leave early to catch ferry. I didnt expect breakfast but i received a packed lunch, nice veiw from the room.room was clean and cosy just a pity i couldnt stay longer. Stranraer seems a nice wee place.
We stayed in the Sea View King room with views of the ocean. The house is spotless and very luxurious. It is a credit to the owners and we would recommend it to anyone. Beautiful breakfast and surroundings.
Fabulous luxury room with a soft comfortable bed, great bathroom and a swimming pool available for us to use - absolutely brilliant. Lovely breakfast and a great view over Loch Ryan from the bedroom window.
Ive stayed in a few hotels and this one was the best by far .

The staff were very friendly, our room was very comfortable and clean. It is well located with easy access to seafront, town, train station and ferry ports (taxis required but not expensive).
The views from the room. The room itself. Use of the pool, sauna and hot tub after a long journey. The breakfast was great and filling. The helpfulness of the staff.
Stayed in the deluxe double room in Thornbank House where the ambiance and facilities were excellent. Breakfast only and standard of food and cooking first class.
The Deluxe King Room with Sea View, was indeed deluxe!, superb facilities coupled with very friendly and helpful staff.
Will definitely visit again SOON!.
Right on the front, with a park in front where we had a picnic and where the children could play.
Very handy for the ferry.
Very quiet at night.
we stayed at the deluxe room which was only 2 minutes from main hotel. Fiona the owner was very nice and recommend her and the hotel very highly.
I had a brill stay at marine everything was wonderful from start to finish ..what else can i say !.. EXCELLENT.. be back real soon ...
We only stated there to get our ferry to Ireland so it is a good place for that the accomodation was good clean and good food.
The hotel looks over the sea front with lovely views, local attractions /amenities were within walking distance.
We booked the night before and got a lovely big room with a view out to sea. Te bathroom was small but adequate.
we really enjoyed the friendly member of staff Sue. She couldn't do enough for you. Very helpful and obliging.
We stayed one night before going to Ireland a great little room for that. Easy walk to eating places.
Very clean and comfortable. The manager was lovely, made us feel as if she couldn't do enough for us.
great location to explore the Mull of Galloway. Very nice owner, good price for a nice little hotel.
Staff were excellent the rooms were good.
it is a good stopover for Irish ferries.
Breakfast was A1.
Very quiet location great breakfast not far from shops and pubs good quality all round.
Excellent breakfasts, which set us up for the day - served at a time
convenient to us.
Had a great stay .. Very cosy , clean and very friendly.. will stay again ..
We had a lovely stay at Marine Hotel .Everything was great will stay again.
Great service, very polite staff, great rooms for price, nice view of loch.
warm welcome, room contained thoughtful extras, comfy bed, lovely view.
Warm, friendly welcome
Lovely swimming pool; hot tub and sauna.
Beautiful weather and we had a spectacular view across loch Ryan.
could not say anything wrong with this hotel.
It is a bit of a walk to reach the centre of Stranraer to access the restaurants, but not too bad.
N/A.
Having to Leave lol.
Some parts of town now desolate due to moving port from Stranraer to Cairnryan 8 miles away.
However didn't want to leave the place!.
It was a bit too warm.
Nothing I did not like.
Nothing to dislike.
Surprised at how quiet Stranraer is in the evening - if we hadn't had the picnic with us, I don't know where we'd have eaten.
could not fault it what so ever.
Stranraer the people I found friendly but eating out is limited the 1 pub we were given directions too for a meal asked if we had a reservation a bit hard when your new in town suffice to say we didn't get a table, thankfully there was a little cafe open were we were able to get dinner Stranraer only good for the ferries!.
Could not find any staff members to give advice, directions or even take payment.
there wasn't anything we didn't like.
nothing.
Bar and restaurant were both shut so a B & B rather than a hotel.
No complaints at all. Would certainly anticipate another visit.
folded cot in room and a little too much furniture.
Everything was perfect.
