Relaxed and laid back atmosphere was great, could float around in our spa gowns and slippers. Lovely room, breakfast was amazing. Some spa hotels have a strict check in at 3pm and leave by 11am, Charlton House were happy to let us use the spa for as long as we liked both on day of arrival and departure. Fridge in the room was really useful. Garden was beautiful and would love to go back during a sunny spell to spend some time relaxing out there! Teen treatment prices...FAB idea!.
all reviews » We liked the 'shabby chic' feel of the place. Even though the Mulberry fabrics and furnishings were a bit 'tired' in certain places - it did not seem to matter too much as it added to the charm of the place. Important details such as good quality linen/ bedding/ towels/cutlery etc did not disappoint. The general feel of the hotel, lovely rooms and extremely comfortable bed. Lovely spa which we used twice during our stay and great breakfast with plenty of choice I had a perfect egg florentine have booked already for our return. I loved the decor which was so inspirational. My room was fantastic with lovely furntiure and decor and was very comfortable. The setting of the hotel was excellent and the spa was amazing. I really enjoyed my stay. Everything was perfect, although it is expensive you get what you pay for which is all top notch, from the food right down the the cleanliness. Couldnt fault it. Look forward to my next visit. Wonderful country house hotel with a lot of charm. We had a huge and wonderful room with a little terrace. Spa very nice and agreable grounds. Spa was clean but a little dusty from crumbling brickwork around the edge of the hydropool. If you relaxed back and put your arms out they got covered in brick dust in a few places, that needs repairing, BUT that was the most minor of niggles in a great place which I booked to go back to In a few weeks time with my daughter while I was there. We thought that the bathroom in our room (Secret Garden) could have been better. We appreciate that it is just classed as a "Standard Double Room" - but there was definite room for improvement. For £175 per night - we had expected better. The evening meal, the food too many flavour combinations and small portions. Shame as the breakfast was beautifully cooked and had a great selection. It was a cold, wet night and it would have been a nice touch to have the open fire lit. I would have preferred the spa to stay open later than 9pm as I was on business and didnt arrive at the hotel until 8pm. Also, I would have preferred if the spa could open earlier than 9am as I wanted to use it before going off to a business meeting. The opening times were very restrictive. The dinner was not up to the standard of such a hotel. But the breakfast was excellent. A little more attention to cleaning in the rooms would be good: example- there were biscuit crumbs in the welcome pack when we opened it. A dirty cloth was left in our bathroom by housekeeping in the evening after the bed had been turned down for the night. Nothing major- just small details. The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment - the full English was really greasy. The toilet in "Melchior" room was noisy and slow to refill after flushing. The spa is beautiful but staff not paying attention to detail as guests arrive. Used towels left laying around, and no clean towels were available. The party that was in the private area of the dining room over dinner - the noise was intrusive whilst we were dining. Nothing. bathroom door handle came off in my hand and plug socket didn't work. The hotel from the outside needs some paintwork. Took one hour at dinner for main course to arrive; guests at dinner wearing track suit bottoms and trainers. nothing. did not like decor in Duncans Den to dark and like a porn King Palace, sorry Duncan don't think much of your Interior design taste.... Just wish it was nearer I'd go more often. nothing. Cleanliness is lacking, bits of paper laying around the spa area, skirting boards in the toilet were filthy. Food in the Restaurant didn't"t fit expectations, trout was burnt. meant to be a Spa hotel but during our two night three day stay no treatments were available. Seems local non staying customers have priority over staying guests. Therefore not much point in booking this hotel as a Spa hotel. Not being able to use the grounds when there is a wedding . Me and my wife were told we couldn't stay in the garden because there was a wedding ceremony, and they get full use of the garden , so wasn't to happy .
