The Proprietors Robert & Jo. The fact they don't want anyone to be disappointed & supplied a particular cereal just for me even though I only asked if they stocked them. Remembering where we'd been and asking how our trips went each day. Friendliness, making us all feel at home and always pleasant with guests.
Also ideal location for town and nearby shops as well as the cliffs and Spa.

The Grainary is a working farm, with a B&B on the side, so if you like the atmosphere of a farm, off on the edge of the moors, you'll love it. Children are especially well catered for, as they have every imaginable farm animal in the fields near the house, plus dogs, rabbits, a ferret and certainly one or two I've missed. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable, traditional (working) sash windows, reasonably spacious given ‘squeezed’ into what used to be the servants quarters, with a wonderful view to the westerly rear of mature stands of beech trees, long established hedging and nicely kept lawn. We loved the food in the restaurant it was delicious, well presented and nothing was a bother, the breakfast was lovely as well.
we were celebrating a 60th birthday and the staff could not have been more helpful they joined us for a dringk on the saturday evening.
we may have been a little noisy at times but still they did not mind.

Good location to explore the area. Close to Scarborough, Whitby and the North Yorkshire moors. Ten minute drive into Scarborough. 20 Minutes to Whitby and approx 45 Minutes to Bridlington. Nice old pub to stay at. Didn't actually occupy a room in the pub but the exterior accommodation in a converted annex was very comfortable. Enjoyed the company of the friendly locals in the pub. Food was excellent and the manager and staff were very friendly.
