The Bridge Restaurant boasts spectacular views of the Tyne Bridge, whilst the Redwood Bar has a relaxing fireplace and sofas. Martha’s Bar and Courtyard opens onto the Quayside. Central location - everywhere in the city is within walking distance. Good rate and value for money. The food is extremely good. The hotel was quiet - no noisey parties or guests. Corridors weren't clogged up with housekeeping trolleys, laundry bags etc. in the mornings. Restaurant staff were excellent, friendly but discreet, prompt and attentive without being intrusive. The staff were very friendly. I was able to check in when I arived at 10 am even though you usually cannot check in before 2 pm. The location is excellent - only 5 minutes walk from the city centre and the train station.Friendly staff, great location and views, on site parking facilities, well appointed room. Room was very much in need of decoration/upgrade - wallpaper on one wall had been patched up (very badly, at that) and had an old fashioned TV, not as described in their pamphlet.I did not like the creditcard style room key, it had to be re-booted to gain access, it was a bit of a pain ! however, this is a trivial matter, Fab experience, 10 out of 10. Satnav does not work as a bridge is closed. The hotel is aware 'everyone getys lost' but did not advise us in advance. Paying the holding charge as it has still not yet appeared back into myaccount and you were not informed about this when booking on line. Ifmoney had not been available in bank I would then have been overdrawn!!!. The reception desk area is a style disaster unworthy of this good hotel. The main lounge is spoiled by the presence of the reception desk. Reception staff looked dowdy, lacked charm and were not especially efficient.The windows in my room looked like they had not been cleaned for years. They were black! We ordered food from the bar and had to wait an hour for a burger and smoked salmon. The room was a bit on the small side. Carpet stained, noisy church clock chimes, cooked breakfast gave us both stomach upsets.Darkness and drab appearnace of room....lighter colored bedspreads would be very helpful.....would benefit from a better fan in the bathroom and an updated exercise room. Room was very warm so put air conditioning on which then made the roomcold but that wouldn't put us off from staying again.breakfast staff let the overall service down; it took 3 attempts just to get tea and toast!. Breakfast for a four star hotel was below average. A minor point, but it does not have the feel of a recently-refurbished hotel. It has the feel of the 1990s. Poor quality of after dinner drinks at bar - Calvados, house white wine. breakfast was not as good as I expected. i was a little worried about the entrance from hotel to marthas bar, felt that the public could acsses the hotel to easy needed security measures to be better , eg acsses to be card holders or sia officer checking key passers. Th receptionist answering the phone while dealing with my booking,. Bit pricey for a hotel that is in need of modernisation. Had to ask for tea and coffee making facilities which were slow to arrive. Room was old fashioned. Reception service a little impersonal received much better welcomes atother hotels. Mini bar not working. Bath panel loose and unsightly. Expensive. Poor evening meal, booked for 8-30.pm made to wait in the bar and was not seated untill 9-30pm food not up to 4* standard. Room was small for the price, no fan in bathroom, so room misted up after using the shower/bath. No fruit at breakfast. Room too cluttered. Valet Parking took too long to get car on departure. Wedding party overtook the receptionat checkin/out, room v cold didn'twarm up for whole stay- abit tight to urn it off on a cold day !!! Iwould only recommend for a stay in the summer. Needs updating, it did not in my opinion represent what a 4 star hotel should be.Poor parking arrangements. overated for a 4star old fashioned decor thought ihad stepped back into the 1980s. Having to pay the bill after having a leaky bathroom sink, dirt in thebath, orange mould on the shower head,freezing cold room, no tea cupsshould I go on.......

Turn off the A1 signposted City Centre A695. Follow the City Centre A695 signs along the Scotswood Road into the City Centre one way system. Turn Right onto Westgate Road and bear Left onto Collingwood Street. At the Traffic Lights, filter Right, past the Cathedral on your left. Immediately after the Castle Keep (before the High Level Bridge) turn left into Castle Garth, the Hotel is straight in front of you.

FROM THE WEST (A69)
Proceed along the A69 until you reach the first major Roundabout. Turn Right onto the A1 (signposted City Centre A695). Remain in the Filter lane and leave the A1 immediately, signposted A695. Follow instructions as from the North above.

FROM THE SOUTH (A1M)
Proceed along the A1 (new Western Bypass). Turn off to Gateshead, signposted, A184 Gateshead Town Centre. Follow the signs A184 Gateshead Town Centre then take A189 across the Redheugh Bridge. Follow A189 up St. James Boulevard and stay in right hand lane. At traffic lights turn right onto Westgate Road and bear left onto Collingwood Street. At traffic lights filter right passing Cathedral on your left. Immediately after the Castle Keep (before High Level Bridge). Turn left into Castle Garth. The Hotel is straight in front of you.
