bar times were brilliant,the hotel was very clean and kept well. it was situated in a convenient place,and we could easily access the town centre. Room was very comfortable and the breakfast first class. Excellent location and price,breakfast was great too!. Clean quiet room. all. We like that the pub's were all near and alot of things were walking distance. The hotle was very nice.

IT was extremely well located to the Quayside, the city and carparking (24 hour park just behind hotel ). Easy to find. Perfect for our purpose, a wedding reception at a hotel 100 yards away.The locality and the staff. Breakfast was lush !!!!. friendliness of staff . very central location. its so near to bars and restaurants, the bar staff were freindly, breakfast was ggod. the flexible times of checking in and being open.The Conveinient location to the Theatre Royal. In walking distance of everywhere we needed to be. In walking distance of train station. Breakfast room was bright and airy and breakfast selection was good. nil. no negatives. Every thing was fine. yes the toilet door handle did not work and you had to shout to be let out and the breakfast room smelt terrible of dirty greasy food. I was glad we were late to bed, the noise level from the Saturday night folk would be a bit much for families. The alley to the hotel is not very pleasant and the hotel sign is covered in graffeti. room drawer hanging off, and tea stain up wall near tea making facilities. the time that you had to vacate your room, but they did keep our suitcases locked in a room till our time to leave which was good !. Train noise. The rooms could do with a bit of an update. There was a club nearby whiyed very loud disco music, but it was quiet by 1 am (when my friend woke up). The lift is an accident waiting to happen. Fingers will be trapped. Asked twice 4 a wake-up call that never came, cleaner hasn't shown twice...It's what is taken 4 granted that wasn't working !!. Limited selection at the bar. Very noisy in the evening till @ 01.00 am. The pub below plays very loud music, to be honest you might as well have been in the pub!. Breakfast could be improved slightly i.e choice and quality. There was alot of unexpected noise in the evening that went on until about 1am, making it difficult for sleeping.old furniture. abit noisey but not to bad. noisy at night but we expected that. being above a nght club. little outdated decor. Nothing to complain about.Lazy so and so at the night reception desk / bar - couldn't even be bothered to get ice for drinks!. Hotel is on a nightclub ! If you like dance music and like coming in at 1 in the morning then this is the hotel for you. However if not - don't book it. On Saturdays the music doesn't stop until 1 in the morning so you can't get any sleep. Plastic sheet on bed. The main entrance is at the rear, not on Dean St.as the address. This was confusing and made it difficult to find.The room was in need of some maintenance, ie the telephone did not work, some of the furniture needed repairs. quite basic but value for money. Check in/out desk was not manned most of the time. The hotel was hard to find as the entrance was up some stairs off the main road. The beds were very creaky and could hear next door turning over in the night (I'm sure they only need tightening!). Most hotel staff were fine although one inparticular was very, very rude. A few of the others guests also mentioned this. Alley way and entrance to hotel a bit scruffy and off puting.

Surtees Hotel offers breakfast each morning between 07:00 and 09:30 Monday to Saturday and between 08:00 and 10:30 Sundays and bank holiday Mondays. This is served in our pleasant a spacious breakfast room 'The Gallery'.

At present Surtees Hotel does not have a restaurant serving any meals other than breakfast.

For Meetings and functions buffets can be aranged upon request.

Important information to guests

There is a charge of GBP 7.95 for a full English breakfast per person. The hotel is situated in a listed building and as such does not have double glazing. Please be aware you may be charged a damages deposit upon arrival at management discretion. Please note that there are a few steps leading up to the hotel. Group bookings (together or separately) of 3 rooms or more are subject to 10% non-refundable deposit payable within 5 days of booking. This will be taken from the card used to secure the booking. A cancellation period of 1 month prior to arrival will apply, any cancellations after this time will be charged the full cost of the booking for every room cancelled. Group bookings will be sent a separate contract and room list to fill out via email before arrival. A GBP 50 damages deposit will be requested from each person upon check in.

Information about the area

Surtees Hotel is located only a stones throw from High Street shopping and Eldon Square, Europe's first ever city centre shopping mall. A short distance from local musuems & art galleries & within easy reach of the universities. Whilst staying with us you may wish to take a stroll along the Quayside a few minutes walk from the hotel. The Quayside is one of Newcastle's most picturesque areas, especially at night. Home to the famous Tyne Bridge and the more recent Millenium Eye Bridge. The Quayside is home to The Sage and The Baltic and boasts an array off tourist attractions, stylish bars, restaurants and nightclubs to suit a variety of tastes. Approx. a 10 minute walk and you can experience the leisure complex 'The Gate' which offers a cinema, casino and more bars and restaurants. A short bus ride across the river will take you on a shopping experience to remember at the major indoor shopping centre 'The Metrocentre'.

Travelling information

Surtees Hotel is based in the city centre and is accessible using most modes of transport. It is easy to reach from the airport by car or public transport, and only a short walk from the central railway, metro and bus stations.

By Car:
From the North (A1):
- Take the A1 and continue onto the A167 for city centre.
- Exit for the city centre south (A186).
- Continue through the underpass into the city centre.
- Exit the roundabout for the A193 (Wallsend, South Shields).
- Enter the left hand lane and take the slip road approaching The Swan House roundabout (Bar Box/Metro Radio in middle).
- Take the 3rd exit off the roundabout onto Mosley Street and turn left at the traffic lights onto Dean Street.
- Continue under the arch on the left as if entering the car park, and the hotel entrance is on your right.

From the South (A1/A19):
- Follow the A1M/A19 and exit onto A167 Gateshead.
- Continue through Gateshead and after about 3 miles the road becomes a dual carriageway flyover and filters down to traffic lights.
- Continue straight ahead over the Tyne Bridge and take the left slip road up to Swan House roundabout.
- Take the 1st exit onto Mosley Street and continue as above.

From the West (A69):
- Follow the A69 until the A1 is signposted at the large roundabout.
- Exit for the A1 North and continue onto the A167.
- Continue using the North directions above.

By Air:
Newcastle International Airport is approximately 8 miles away. You can take a taxi or metro, which is about a 20 minute journey.
