We really enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was clean and spacious and the food was of very good quality. The all you can eat breakfast was suberb. A lovely setting overlooking the river. And very good value for money compared with other places that we looked at. Free car parking is a bonus too. We will definitely recommend The Riverside to friends and family. The Riverside is probably one of the nicest hotels i have stayed in in a long time, and certainly for the price. Excellent leisure facilities, excellent bar, staff were fabulous, rooms were clean and well stocked with anything you might need. I was on a work trip, but i'm seriously going back for another stay with the woman i love. Maybe even the wife.
all reviews » Staff were very helpful. The room was much larger than I had anticipated, and very clean. The view out onto the river was lovely. The room service was excellent - great food delivered on time. The price was very reasonable indeed. The hotel is handy for the town and the railway station. It was within easy walking distance of the railway station, the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and had a view of the river. It was an easy walk into the town centre to reach the shops and there were easy to reach walks along the riverside. This was my first visit to Kendal and I liked everything about the Riverside. The staff were friendly, informative and eager to help. The waitress Romana was delightful and made our visit feel special. I would certainly come back again and recommend it. Fantastic location right on the river. Very close to the town centre, so easy to walk to and around. Didn't have time to try the pool, but it looked really appealing. Good breakfast. Undercover, free parking. Very good WiFi - and free (as it should be). The staff were extremely helpful, and no request were too much. The view out over the river was lovely and the balcony from the bar is very nice to sit out on and have a drink. It is a nice short walk from the train station and to the town centre. I guess it might have been nice to check-in before 3pm, but this is really minor. I couldn't stay longer. Due to personal arrangements, the fact that I could not stay on longer. nothing. Nothing whatsoever. I only booked 1 night!. The heating was far too hot, it made sleeping difficult, the pillows were hard also. I found the cleaning staff were little unfriendly but you could see they worked hard. Could do with a little paint in some parts, like the restaurant windows!. Although free parking is stated the number of spaces available is very limited - however we parked elsewhere near by for only £3 for 24 hours!. It wasn't made particularly clear that there was a health club with pool attached to the hotel so came as a bit of a surprise when we arrived. Also we booked a family room thinking we could take our daughter however we were told we had to pay an extra £39 -I thought a booking was for a room not per person. Corridors a bit gloomy and could have smelled fresher. Phone in room barely worked (405). Nothing. Unfortunately access to our room involved steps even using the lift which was a problem for my husband. A hand grab rail at the side of the bath would have been helpful. Absolutely nothing I didn't like. Breakfast wasn't the quality and selection we would have expected for the hotel and cost. It was a little hard to find in a car and the breakfast didn't have any fresh fruit, only canned which wasn't that nice. There was nothing we did not like. Difficulty finding hotel from one way system around town, it would be helpful to provide extra details on website. the weather!!. Nothing. Access to room involved stairs to get to the lift. The window catches were loose and the windows rattled in the wind. A dog barking quite late on in the room next to ours. Decor tired in places. Bar lounge is rather a souless place that does not feel very comfortable as a place to sit and relax. Room could have been cleaner there were dirty marks near the waste bin and the toilet could have been cleaner. Lack of parking spaces howeve. Breakfast generally good but sure chef didnt taste the black pudding - it was like cardboard- and served properly can be such a tasty breakfast accompaniment,. Lovely restaurant overlooking the river but only did table d'hote menu. Why not a la carte ?. Not enough choice of fruit for breakfast. . barrier needs attention,!. Not easy getting a pushchair from the room to the exit/restaurant but I appreciate this is to do with the age of the building. We stayed for two days but our room was not made up and replenished after the first day. Pool is tiny and always full of kids as its open to the public. Not a lot in Kendal and its completely closed on Sundays. N/a. The shower was difficult to use. Nothing to dislike. location made it hard to find unless you had sat-nav. Shower Head was not as Clean as it should be. !!. No atmosphere in the Bar for food so tried the restaurant and no atmosphere there as it was empty!. the only thing was the outside of the building and windows were tired and needs some TLC. Room was very warm even with window open. The Bathroom was a little tired, although it was clean.

Travelling information

By Car:
- Take the M6.
- Exit at junction 36.
- Follow the dual carriageway signposted for Kendal.
- Take the first exit for Kendal Town Centre.
- Join the one-way system along Highgate.
- Turn right into Lowther Street and continue on the one-way system.
- After passing the bus station on your left, turn right at the traffic lights into Sandes Avenue.
- Go over the bridge and past the Peugeot Garage, then get into the right-hand lane to turn right at the mini roundabout.
- Keep going right past the County Hotel into Wildman Street.
- Just before the bridge, turn right at the zebra crossing into Beezon Road and the hotel is on your left.

From Windermere:
- Follow Windermere Road into Kendal past the County Offices.
- At the traffic lights turn left into the one-way system along Sandes Avenue.
Then as above.

There is free parking for 40 cars adjacent to the hotel with a further 65 reserved places at Kendal Station.
