What people say
Good sized room, everything I needed for overnight stay. Room overlooked garden which was pretty and quiet but imagine it would be a busy (noisey) beer garden in high summer. Decor modern, bathroom with double shower. Location excellent for RHS Harlow Carr visit. Breakfast continental only in price but sufficient and reasonable choice.
We were given a really warm welcome from John who carried our bags up to our room and explained facilities etc to us Breakfast was good The best part was sitting in the garden in the warm sunshine sipping white wine with friends It is a beautiful place. all reviews »
The location is great, just a 25 minute walk downhill into Harrogate and simple to get the bus back.
I was travelling with a large group of family for my father's birthday and the event went very well including a table fror 18 on the night.
The amenities were excellent and so was the staff. There wasnt a shower cap and when I rang down to reception they brought one up straight away. I also think that the english breakfast was value for money.
Service was amazing as was environment. My 20 year old daughter had just had an operation and they made (being away from home at such a vulnerable time) it a good experience as opposed to a hard one.
The rooms were well designed and roomy for couples. For our son, with a family in the one room, it was a squash! We chose it to go to Harlow Carr and it was wonderfully placed for there.
The gardens and atmosphere of the place. We had the family room which
looked out onto the garden which was lovely. The continental breakfast
was excellent , and staff very attentive.
The staff were helpful and friendly, surroundings very nice inside, and the garden with water feature on a hot day was relaxing, food very good too, enjoyed our visit very much.
We travelled with our grand daughter & found it to be a very nice hotel with friendly staff.
Our evening meal was delicious & the childrens meals were very good value.
Beautiful old house, well-decorated rooms, very clean, excellent restaurant (quite pricey), friendly and accommodating staff (especially Emily), nice back garden.
Location, everything we needed, friendly staff, the convenience of having a bar/restaurant on site and not having to pay a lot for drinks/food as at hotels.
the rooms were of a high standard for the cost and the food was of good quality. the staff were very helpful and the whole feel of the hotel was welcoming.
Lovely area - hotel in a great location - excellent hotel in every way - would highly recommend it and Harrogate with its lovely surrounding countryside.
Very clean rooms and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. This us our second visit and will definetley be returning in the future.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The meal we had in the restaurant was very good. Good champagne recommendation from John.
Clean, large room that had been recently renovated. The attached
bar/restaurant was great and serve food until late in to the
evening.
A warm welcome greeted us on arrival. Staff were extremely attentive. The continental breakfast was all we could have wished for.
Loved the decor, leather, tartan, wood; so cosy; olde world feel; staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely Continental breakfast.
Had an olde world feel to hotel with modern facilities.Easy access to Harrogate, about 1.5mls.Dining room & meals supererb.
Super friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful hotel with great food and within easy walking distance of Harrogate centre.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect and the hotel was beautiful and full of character.
Room excellent value, public areas very high quality, staff pleasant, food very good.

The hotels atmosphere was very comforting. I thought the accomodation
was good value for money.

Staff were great.
ideal location for us,had it own parking,.
Very friendly staff and facilities good.
Food was excellent, as was the service.
the overall ambiance of the place.
Appears to have Fixed price for all rooms even family rooms. As solo traveller they should offer a better room rate as this seems unfair.
Some of the bar staff not so friendly.
The bedrooms were a little bit too warm overnight.
There was 18 of us in a group for breakfast and there wasn't anywhere set up specifically for us, there was not enough food initially and there was only 1 girl on duty who did her best but was rather run off her feet getting pots of hot water for tea, refreshing the coffee, bringing more bread, fruit etc. The hotel knew we were a large group and it would have been good for the hotel to have been more prepared at breakfast.
The thermostat would turn off on the radio.
The breakfast facilities were cramped. It should have made it more clear that you would have to pay extra for anything hot.
We booked to eat in the restaurant, unfortunately we were very
disappointed with the food. We ordered fish and frites which were over
cooked and the chicken roast came with no stuffing or sausage and bacon.
Had far better for a lot less in other restaurants. No bedding for the
sofa bed but this was quickly sorted once I mentioned it.
nothing,all great!.
Our room was a bit noisy as it was near the main entrance to the accomodation & people let the door bang; decor was a bit 'tired'.
Some of the corridor doors creak loudly - such a shame as this could so easily be fixed with a little oil on the hinges. Also, there is a bar downstairs and on the first night we got some noise of customers as they were leaving (you couldn't hear anything from the actual bar area). I was woken several times the first night and requested a different room for the second night. Do not get Room 5 - very noisy. Room 11 was MUCH better.
The included breakfast is basic and fairly dull.
There was a very unpleasant smell outside our bedroom. Every time we went in or out we had to hold our breath until we got through the next door. This must be a permanent issue as we stayed 2 nights.
The temperature of the room was a nightmare to control. once the radiator was cracked on the room was roasting so i was constantly turning the thermostatic valve on and off very couple of hours which lead to a broken nights sleep.
Nothing.
The room although clean did smell rather musty.
Breakfast was not included in my booking and needed to be paid for
separately rather than simply charged to the room. All of the mirrors in
both the room and bathroom were positioned away from any lights so
shaving/applying make up was not easy.
The food in the restaurant was a little pricey.
No lift & lots of fire doors,as my wife has walking difficulties this was inconvenient to get to rooms.
The music being played in the garden until well after 2300. As my room
overlooked the garden I found this very distrubing. I had to ring down
to reception twice to get the music switched off.
Expensive bar.
generally overpriced meals
limited choice for continental breakfast (need greater choice of prepared fruit, brown and white bread for toast, continuous replenishment of coffee).
Room as very hot. A cooling fan would have helped.
Limited continental breakfast but all of it was very fresh.
price of a bottle of wine!.
Had to have two rooms but they were on different floors so family was not together.
Would have preferred a king sized bed, did request twin on booking but none available.
It is called the Innkeepers Lodge on the booking documents. In fact it
is the The Pine Marten which does not appear on the booking! It would be
much easier if this is corrected.
One slightly officious member of staff on arrival,.
view from room 1 was a bit disappointing.
The mattress in our room was awful, springs all over the place, ponited out to staff on leaving and good response.
The shower enclosure (room 9) needs to be cleaned with bleach.
The room did not smell particularly fresh - was rather stuffy. There could have been two chairs rather than one.
thin walls, very noisey couple (woman) next door, she was enjoying herself and let us all know it, not the hotles fault i suppose!!.
nothing.
Food and drink was expensive and there was very little social space for children.
The inconsistency: some people get bread and dipping oil pre-dinner, some don't. Some people get to taste different wines if they can't choose what they want, some don't.
The breakfast - why not get some nice fresh fruit not boring melon and apples chopped? The bags of frozen berries you get from supermarkets are preferable.
Train staff to say 'sorry' when they need to.
Mirrors too high in bathroom and too low in room, and lighting not good.
room was cold when we checked in,had to turn radiator up ourselves, very creaky floor boards.
Poor night's sleep. Room was near a couple of fire doors which need lubricating and soft closers put on, constantly kept awake by this.
COLD SHOWER IN THE MORNING the heating had gone down, The breakfast in the morning did not seem as organised as the other lodges we have stayed in I doubt very much we will stay here again [as we have others].
