The Phoenix Hotel stands on land that has seen many changes over the centuries. At the end of the 17th century, a row of cottages stood here, one of which can still be seen today on the corner opposite Church House. The hotel caters for local people, businesses and visitors to the area, and provides excellent service in elegant surroundings. The ground floor was recently extensively redesigned to create a new bar, restaurant, reception and private dining suite. The Phoenix succeeded another famous hotel in Dereham, the King's Arms which stood overlooking the Market Place. It has been said that the Phoenix was so named as it rose like the mythical bird from the ashes of the King's Arms. Unfortunately the hotel does not have a lift.

Everything you expect from a hotel room, which you take from granted until you stay at some other hotels.Food was excellent. The room was to hot. we had window open all night and the fan on.Difficult to keep room cool quietly - fans are supplied but noisy and some rooms overlook air conditioning fans from restaurant below.We were charged an extra £100 for damage to one of the rooms after wehad left. We offered to go back and see the damage and to discuss furtherbut everything had been cleared away. We felt that we were unable tochallenge the allegations as there was no evidence and have therefore hadto pay. Surely there is a better way of handling this type of situationas we were left with no options.
