The hotel facilities and staff were wonderful especially for a romantic getaway for two. The hotel was not too far from the main train station so it was in a convienent location in the center of the action. While the price was expensive by US standards, it was reasonable for Lucrern and Europe in general. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

This has been thoroughly enjoyable - the lovely rooms, the hotel's position in the city, the excellent breakfast, the ever so helpful staff: there is no doubt where we would return to next time we are in Luzern!. We absolutely loved it. We will recommend it to our friends and definately stay there the next time we're in Luzern.Everything - the property was beautiful -our room was wonderful and the staff was very friendly and accomodating.good taste of interior, friendliness, comfortable, smoking allowed in lounge, very pleasant hotel. Had to get internet code from front desk every 24 hours.The tap on the wash hand basin in the bathroom was quite impractical for washing your face etc. Also the airconditioning was not very effective as the curtains hung in front of the unit.it was very difficult to get to the hotel because it is within a pedestrian area. That should be mentioned that it is no problem to drive to the hotel to unload luggage!. The breakfast wasn´t worth 27 Swizz France. The policy to charge for contiental breakfeast (in Switzerland of all places). Rooms were too hot.Hotel front desk staff. there is no AC, it made us totally uncomfortable, though the hotel itself has the best location and design.Room does not have air conditioning and it got really hot/stuffy/dry during the night. Need to pull luggage up several steps from outside hotel to reception area.The steps when u first enter the hotel r too high and there was no one to help , I had to lift all the way up. Also, the staff were not that friendly compared to other hotels! A suggestion, the balcony should have sth over it so that one can sit there even in the rain.The worst value for money room of the five hotels we've used in Lucerne ! Dark and small and wouldn't have wanted to have been there for more than the one night - the 3 star Vierwaldstaetterhof at CHF 100 less was a far better room !. bad decoration.. elevator is too small.

Our rooms are individually designed in either classic or contemporary style, with great attention to detail. Many river facing rooms have their own balcony or terrace with wonderful views onto the famous Chappel Bridge and the Swiss Alps.

How to get by car from direction Zurich to our hotel: Lucerne is already marked in Zurich. Follow the green sings (Highway). You pass the towns “Adliswil”, Langnau“ and „Sihlbrugg“. Keep always the direction Lucerne. Take the exit „Luzern Zentrum“. Go onto the right hand most lane after exiting the tunnel. Turn right (marker says “Gütsch”), stay on the right lane. At the traffic light turn right and drive across the bridge “Geissmattbrücke”. Just after the bridge turn right and drive through a small tower which is built across the road (St. Karlistrasse) . Drive along the river until the wooden bridge (left curve in the road, wooden bridge on the right). At the wooden bridge turn right (look for brown hotel markers) and you will come onto a square with a lot of parked cars (Mühlenplatz). Drive across the square. Ignore the no entry signs (you are allowed to drive in as hotel guests) and turn right immediately after the square. Second road left and then onto the Weinmarkt. The HOTEL DES BALANCES is on the right.
