  We were offered free upgrade to a villa when they do not have any non-smoking room available. The place is extremely comfortable and cosy. The staff was so helpful when my friend did not feel well around the time of the checkout and mentioned we could stay till she was feelling ok and the personal touch on offering assistance just could not be fo... what people say » und in the 5 star hotel chains. - Our 2 nights-stay in the hotel was amazing. Our room was upgraded to a suite close to Gion Hatanaka. The suite was large, quiet and comfortable. We also enjoyed the kaiseki dinner as well as Geisha show. It was marvellous. The hotel staff was professional and helpful. They could communicate in English. I wish I could stay longer.

  Great Japanese breakfast included each morning - lots of variety, unfortunately somethings a little too adventurous for our western palettes.   Staff were exceptionally nice and helpful; they were able to give us directions when we called, hopelessly lost. They greeted us warmly when we arrived with hot cups of tea and helped us to find a local restaurant. The next day, they offered to keep our luggage while we went sightseeing. The traditional breakfast in the morning was also very good and well worth the value. - The location is excellent, just 5+ mins walk from the main Kyoto station. Price is reasonable for the service and facilities. Rooms are clean and fully equipped. Staff served tea to us every day when we came back to the ryokan. They have a free cultural night event every night run by volunteer staff. They are so friendly and it was really nice learning about their lives in Kyoto, as well as pick up some origami/calligraphy writing. Highly recommended!
