We chose Hotel du Siimplon as I read a review there was a laundromat around the corner which I knew we would need by then. The laundromat was clean, great price, and easy to access from hotel. It is a charming facility, with great staff. I would stay there again. It is only one block from the city square with lots of activities and shopping. Great location! Only few blocks (less than 10 min walk) from Place Bellecour. Metro stations only one block away. Clean and cozy. Great water pressure and temperature in the shower. Wifi connection strong. Great value for the location. One block from Perrache train station.
all reviews » Nice little hotel, very close to the city center. They have some reserved parking spots in a public parking nearby. The atmosphere in the hotel is great and cosy, with a lot of references to the Simplon mountain pass and former Simplon Express trains. The hotel was well located, near a metro and train station. The air conditioning was essential as the temperature was in the mid thirties while we were there.Good value for the price we paid for the room. Excellent location, very quiet room, very friendly staff, only 600 meters from main train station and 15 minutes walk to centre and rue Mercier with plenty of restaurant choices. excellent location, a few minutes from city centre and restaurants. parking available but as arrived on sunday, parking free on road. For the price, the hotel is fine as we just used it to sleep at night. Location between the rivers great for shopping and dining, about a 20 min walk to where most of the restaurants are and just 5 mins to shopping. Didn't have breakfast, but was an optional extra. Lift to take bags up and down stairs. 24 hour front desk (we had a 4am check out). Staff really friendly and helpful. Quiet street so no noise at night. The reception staff were businesslike, rather than friendly. Our room had all we needed and WiFi worked well in the room. There is a pleasant guest lounge area for use on the ground floor. Breakfast offered a good selection and the best yoghurt we had all trip. good location, very central. Decoration. Location. Nothing. No free continental breakfast included. No elevator (but this is typical in small European hotels). Elevator was not working while we were there (but reparation was ongoing). We had a superior room - a standard one must have been the size of a broom cupboard.The curtains were difficult to pull - the eyelets got stuck, owing to the height of the room. I've had better breakfasts for 9 euros - and although refilling small jam pots is an eco idea, stock control is difficult!. Cramped bathroom, very poor shower, ridiculous in the short bursts of water it gave. Toilet broke down entirely. no free parking nearly. A bit poky. Bathroom tiny and not super clean, but did have a hair dryer and hand/shower gel. Walls very thin and floorboards a bit noisy. Reception booked taxi for 4am departure and advised us it would take 45 mins and cost €50... it took 20 mins and cost €80. We don't speak French, and only night time receptionist spoke English. Bed a little firm for me but my partner loved it. We had become used to friendlier staff on reception during our 6 week trip, we found it all rather impersonal Lack of information about Lyon readily available, though we were given a map. - room space too small - 3 floors with no lift with luggage can be painful - room not finished, under renovation. A bit far away from the main pedestrian. Unhelpful staff - no=one to help with heavy bag - had to insist on a move from 3rd to 1st floor and manage my own luggage. room so small I had to leave after one day instead of staying 3. Breakfast extra E9 - very poor value - undrinkable coffee- in France!!.
