The full kitchen and dormitory-like atmosphere. They have food and drink for sale, try to give you tips on budget-friendly eating and travel. They will help you order delivery and have tips and maps for the surrounding Aso trails. It is very clean and has showers and bathrooms, you should bring your own towel and dental hygiene products but they have soap and shampoo. Sozankyo is a well-maintained ryokan -style accommodation that is ideal for Aso. It is located in a small town about 10 minute bus ride from Aso JR station. There is nothing much to say about the small town, but it is nice and cozy (i.e. don't expect any colorful night life here). The onsen is very nice and clean.

Right opposite of the Shinkansen railway station.
Brandnew hotel, very stylish, but tiny rooms. But the beds are supercomfy and the bathroom is very big compared to the room itself. Despite its size the room and the bathroom is very sleak with a very warm colored "design" look. Super well equiped with all possible amenities.

We had an amazing time in this beautifully laid out traditional Kyushu home. The entire second floor was made available to us, and we certainly did not require the use of shower facilities since onsens of a a phenomenal calibre are a few minutes away. The quality of the welcome was second to none, and that included an extremely convenient pick up and drop off from/to the train station and thorough overview of Beppu and its attractions from friendly owner/operator Bibo. Highly recommended.

This is a very homey family-owned and -run guest house (from since the current owner's great-grandfather). My wife and I felt very welcomed during our stay. Among the facilities are the excellent onsens (separate public men/women and another private one). The location is also very good -- only a 10-15 minute walk from Beppu JR Station which is the hub Beppu's public transportation services.

Clean and comfortable hotel. We booked a non smoking room. When we arrived in the room it was smelting smoke. We got a new room right away which was a lot better. Although in Japan it seems difficult to get a really non smoking room. Especially in hotels which exist a little longer. However this hotel is perfect base for exploring Kumamoto and surrounding.
