The family-run Cavendish Hotel is well-placed in the centre of the coastal resort of Torquay. It offers guests indoor and outdoor pools, a games room, a sauna and regular evening entertainment. A TV, telephone and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities are featured in each well-equipped bedroom. Every room also has a private bathroom with a hairdryer. Guests can enjoy a drink whilst relaxing by one of the pools, or in the Cavendish’s hotel gardens. Cabaret acts and theme nights are provided all year round, and there is a large dance floor. A varied menu of home-cooked food is served in the traditional dining room, and a range of wines are also available. Staff very helpful, and friendly but efficient. We felt at home in the hotel, and nothing was too much trouble. I have an unusual diet, but was specially catered for so that I did not go hungry. There were people of all ages staying there, not just elderly people, which was enjoyable, we enjoyed the entertainment, sometimes provided by the staff. We travelled from Lincolnshire by car, and were very pleased there was always a parking space for us'.

The food was a little 1970's but it cooked well and plentiful. The staff were very helpful nothing was any trouble for them to do. Its a great hotel and will return. The pleasant and professional staff in all areas of the hotel. Clean rooms, towels if required, tea/coffee making facilities and T.V available. Excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend to others. The staff were entertaining at breakfast, which was quite good. We liked that it was just a short walk to the sea front and well located for roads to our various destinations. You could feel the friendly Service of every staff and every day, we had get every help and Information that we Need.And we enjoy the victorian stilysh at the interiour. Very nice two star hotel,clean,comfortable and very child friendly my 5 year old loved the fact all the staff made an effort with him and nothing is too much trouble. staff were laid back and friendly. waiters at breakfast efficient and attentive. great atmosphere. no pretensions and children happily accomodated. The only thing we wanted was to stay for our 2nd week in the same hotel, but unfortunately they were already fully booked. bathroom floor was not clean,hairs and dust.toilet seat was unclean and very badly cracked.(only 2 faults.). We were unable to get a print out of our receipt showing VAT component which we need. Hopefully that will be sent to the address left at the reception desk. N/A. Our only criticism was the sauna as it took an hour to get to temperature which cost extra tokens. Its a minor issue but an issue if you like saunas as we do. Never any Kipper option for breakfast and mushrooms and tomatoes didn't appear to be available either. That we could not stay longer. Food is not a la carte it is set menu but it is tasty and portion size fine for us,continental breakfast is just cereal would of liked yogurts or croissants but again its tasty and my family liked the cooked breakfast alot. Unfortunately, although very clean, the ceiling in our room had a big air bubble and looked like it was about to cave in. Breakfasts although nice were very small, hubby had a full english breakfast which was served on a side plate and you had a choice of cereal OR juice (never known that before, always get offered both). First morning the water was cold coming out of the shower. The outside pool looked like it needed a clean. Couldnt find the way in as the main front door is only a fire exit. Decor is old and wallpaper peeling. Kids play area was closed due to repairing work for other room which blocked entry for kids area. Hotel little shabby eg side falling off bath,window sills , and glasses in bar dirty. could hear everything from room above even opening drawers and floors very squeaky. The hotel looks very tired and dated, our family room although spacious badly needs a refurb. Could be more organised with billing and receipts. Hotel needs to b updated. The noise from the function room disco was so loud that I had no chance of getting any sleep until it ended. This really impacted on my sleep, as it went on well past midnight. I understand people were having fun, but as I needed to get a reasonable nights sleep I would not stay again. There was a leak in the bar. Confusion over menu evening meal,different menu .the coffee,at meal times.. the weather but that was no ones fault. There was nothing I didnt like about this hotel. Small room View out of window, another wall. Difficulty first few days obtaining wifi connection. No fixing of shower unit when notified on first day of three night stay. Evening meal bland not so good. Noise from other rooms. shower in our room poor - ok for couple of nights stay but if staying longer would ask to be moved. breakfast is very poor, sold as full english but more like quarter english...not worth £5. evening meal food good value but would pay more for better quality. Unfortunately we were in a room next to 2 rowdy idiots who were shouting, balling & swearing for hours. I complained to security & they came up twice & spoke to them but it didn't stop them. So terrible night sleep. We also had a random guest with a key walk into our room saying he thought it was his room. Very bizarre & reception couldn't explain how they had a key . If these things hasn't happened it would have been perfect. Outside Pool area could be spruced up and kept a bit cleaner/tidier. single beds could do with replaceing of mattresses. When i finished having a shower water would be on the outside of shower tray. the food ?. Nothing. need some updating, room look tired. It needed decorating and refubishing . the rooms were quite small and were hard for the maids to keep clean and we found a few bugs in the bed cover.The pools could have been kept cleaner as there was scum floating on both pools. The entertainment!!! its advertised as a family hotel but id say its more for pensioners. After a terrible nights sleep on the first night we found our bed was broken, although staff were quick to repair so i thank them for that. Noisy at night .Stayed 2 nights not a lot of sleep.Walls thin ,party's going on to 4 am . On our 2nd breakfast,obviously a lack of staff.After 30 minutes had only had a fruit juice. Building was too old,beds were very un comfortable,room carpets and toilets were dirty and old.
