  Service and staff were excellent.Early evening the restaurant was busy with families calling in after a visit to Peppa Pig Park but quietened down later..Dinner was very good ,with plenty of choice and freshly cooked .A good breakfast menu and unlimited coffee.   Martin was very accommodating when our travel plans went awry and gave us a warm welcome despite our late arrival. We were treated to tasty local delicacies for breakfast. Martin also went out of his way to inform us of any attractions or places worthwhile visiting in the are we were going to travel to. Every facility provided i.e Easy private parking, hairdryer, microwave, WiFi, power shower. , will even clean your shoes should you ask!!!!!! Will definitely recommend this hostelry

  I dont think the location could be any better, its right outside the gates to winchester cathedral. our room was almost stately, with a beautiful (yet very unpractical) roll-top bath... the shower was huge and one of the best I've used, but the surround curtain and the bath design meant that the floor pretty soon got flooded. It was very nicely appointed. It was close to the cathedral and the center of town. There were nice shops and sightseeing areas nearby. The staff was quite friendly and the pub had really good food and drinks. The stairwell and hallways were kind of like a tiny maze but we found that to be charming.

  Peace and tranquility. The friendly and courteous staff. Comfortable seating for two to sit or watch TV (not often given in many hotels). The plentiful tea and coffee facilities.   The room that we had was of such a good standard. We originally intended to book the Superior Room but as they only have the one, it was't surprising that was already booked up.So we went with the normal double and it ended up being absolutely fine and very comfortable. But this one wasn't, so much so that I quite happily walked around bare- - A nice hotel, if you are traveling through. It was clean (except for the teacups, they were very dirty.) The rooms are spacious, and the beds are comfy.The hotel is in a beautiful location. The breakfast is nice, only if you do not like a cooked breakfast, there is not much choise. There are some serial, but no bread, nor cheese/ham enz. Only jam for your toast. If they would change that, it would be perfect. We went to Beaulieu in the New Forest (very nice!), when we stayed here. Allso Portsmo

I was concerned about noise prior to arrival as the accommodation is above a pub, there was no noise therefore a peaceful sleep was had by all.   Spacious rooms (they did not have a twin room left so they gave us two doubles off the bat. It was a busy night and they were full. Other places would have tried to put us in 1 double and waited to see if we squawked). I had a lovely room with a fireplace. Bed was comfortable.   We had booked a twin-bedded room, but as none were available the hotel gave us two adjacent double rooms for the agreed price of the twin-bedded room - very generous. The rooms were very pleasant, the staff were very helpful and the food at dinner was excellent. The hotel is very close to the Hawk Conservancy Trust that we were visiting. Ernesto makes an amazing breakfast (my partner ate the vegetarian option and it was great too as well as the normal full English). Rufus House is great as it is located in the heart of the New Forest and within walking distance of Lyndhurst. It is also ideal to go for - Very accommodating, useful recommendations provided by email in advance of our stay. I had a wonderful one to one yoga/mindful meditation session with Etzuko and even participated in feeding the koy carp. Our room was lovely, overlooking the back garden and benefitted from a mini-fridge. Loved the guest lounge at the top of the turret - I felt like I had my very own "Princess Castle" - it was a very pleasant place to celebrate my 50th birthday.

  The staff were very freindly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable. Good location on the edge of the city and within easy walking distance of the shops, pubs, restaurants and other attractions. A very small hotel with friendly staff. Even though no lift, we got help with our heavy suitcases. Food was nice. The room was really good. Walking distance to the shops.
