  Japanese style home stay :) clean room and friendly staff. although location is far from city, there is direct JR Bus from Kyoto station to the place. take about 40 mins though. fyi for other traveler as if take JR bus from Kyoto station, alight at Takahanacho stop then walk back about 100m then cross the other side of road. will find easily. staf... wat mensen zeggen » f speak little english and friendly. enjoy my stay :) - Owner and staffs are so friendly. I think he waited for our coming after I confirmed arrival time because while we were walking to find Ryokan and almost getting lost, he called us from in front of Ryokan. I was so impressed. I got a big clean room with garden view and not close to the street so it was quite and peaceful. This room is what I think when stay in ryokan. Love it.

  My wife and I stayed there and was very warmly welcomed by the staff. My wife is pregnant but we found sleeping on the tatami mattress comfortable. Aircon works well and the room and toilet was very clean. We booked around 1 week before going there thus the price was close to 200 Singapore dollars which was a bit steep, but we will stay there a... wat mensen zeggen » gain just because of the hospitality. Also try the set breakfast which you have to pre-order, it was a delicious home-cooked meal. - Decided to get a room with a view of the Japanese garden, was definitely worth the extra money. The staff were exceptionally patient with our limited language ability and extremely helpful in regard to local information and travel questions. The room was very quiet and exceptionally clean, I would definitely recommend staying here, especially for those travelling with jr Pass as the location is very near the rail station.

  Prior to the trip, I had emailed them with queries, and they were very helpful in providing information, offering to pick us up from the bus station. One of the younger staff could speak both English and Chinese, so it made communication much easier. The owner is so friendly and caring and if you can't speak a lot of Japanese its ok because she goes that extra mile to understand you and try to help you find your way.   We stayed here for one night just to experience a traditional ryokan. We found it quite easily. Take the subway to Gojo station on the Karasuma line and exit on the north side. The main street running north is Karasuma Dori, running west is Gojo dori.. Walk to the west & head north on the first little lane you come to. The owners are very welc - The Toshiharu Ryokan is a beautiful old building in a good central location. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and did everything to make our stay enjoyable. I would highly recommend the Japanese breakfast. All of the facilities were very good and clean. We loved our room overlooking the garden. We look to staying at the Toshiharu in the future.

  I highly recommend this great ryokan in Kyoto! Superb value for money, genuine ryokan & home feel, a couple of minutes walk from the metro station (from where you can reach all main districts of Kyoto within 5 to 15 minutes). A supermarket with a western style cafeteria is 3 mins walk away. Other ryokans like this in Gion area would co - We liked that we could rent bikes from the owner at reasonable prices (5 usd per day) - and it was the perfect way to visit Kyoto temples and tea house - on our way to Wise Path and Gion in the night the house is a genuine japanese house with tatami - but for those who appreciate this style - for my 2 m tall husband it was difficult :( also the ryokan is close to imperial castle (which is a must when in Kyoto - i've seen that it;s not such a recommended tourist attraction - but the guide tells
