The spotless room, it was ever so comfortable and clean. The breakfast was delicious! Plenty of choice. Ola and Peter were exceptionally friendly and cheerful and really made you feel welcome. Loved the complimentary bottle of water and biscuits that we received in our room on both days we stayed. Location is great, it is in walking distance of all the shops in Ambleside. We did a lovely walk to Grasmere while we stayed there. In the welcome book there's lots of suggested walks that you can do,

We stayed in room 8 and it was just as amazing as the pictures we saw on here. Huge walk in shower and free standing bath tub. Very comfortable bed and astonishing view from the private balcony. We hadn't stayed in a B and B before but this was one of the most wonderful experiences from start to end. Ethna welcomed us very warmly and made us feel at home throughout our whole stay. Very good guesthouse with very friendly and efficient staff. The double room with en-suite (£70 per night B&B) was very good value, well appointed and was very clean with high levels of local information. The breakfast was extensive with cereal, fruit juice, fresh fruit, yoghurt, full English breakfast with tea/coffee and toast. Alan who co owns Melrose house with his wife Lynn could not have been more helpful. A definite recommendation for Melrose House and will tell family and friends.

Everything was excellent. I was there with my girlfriend and happy to stay there again. Special thanks to manager of the hotel. He was absolutely friendly and cares about us (he recommended to take hotel umbrella because rain could be later and he organized wonderful mini bus tour for us to the lakes). Breakfast also excellent (you could order classic English, continental breakfast and even salmon), wi-fi, TV provided but not so interesting because nature outside is very beautiful.

The staff were lovely, really friendly and helpful. The room seemed small but there was no edging around furniture, even with the travel cot up.
The bathroom was fancy, no bath but a huge shower and it had obviously been recently refurbished.

Such a lovely place to stay where the owners were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. They went above and beyond expectations! Great location right in the middle of Ambleside. Modern well presented rooms with very comfortable beds! We had a great choice of breakfasts and they even have parking spaces! ( rare in Ambleside). We will definitely be returning for another visit!
