Great location, wonderful and courteous staff who helped us even though we had to cut our stay a bit short due to a family emergency. Arthur was the staff member who helped us with that and who was trained by Chris, who was also extremely friendly and mentioned he was seeking a promotion to the Hilton in Anaheim which I thought I would add to the review (wink wink) :) It was great being able to walk to all the local hotspots: market street, the Gaslamp Quarter, Petco Stadium, etc. and save mo.
all reviews » The view was fantastic. Hotel is conveniently located and so easy to move around the city and nearby. Old Town Trolley, which is a convenient way to go to the different attractions, stops right near the hotel side entrance. Driveway, lobby, room and bathroom are all very spacious. Bed and pillows are very comfortable. Our room was available upon arrival at around half past 11 in the morning and we appreciated this very much. The hotel has taken steps to be eco-friendly which is admirable. The hotel was fantastic...well layed out, clean, friendly staff, lots of amenities, and walking distance to Petco Park...we went to see a ball game and it was very convienent! We never left the hotel or facilites...didnt have to drive anywhere...graet food and restaurants...you could easily walk to the gaslamp district. I would definitely stay here again. Held my room for us, had delayed flight. Was told on booking they would have open bar and food available. The bar was open but no food. Ordered out per desk personel. Took I hr to deliver worst subs I have ever eaten. Sub-way was better by far. Otherwise the room was nice, quite but fairly small. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived to the time we left. Our son and his family (3 and 6 yrs old) joined us in a adjoining room. The restaurants were great, as was the pool, and the children loved the water slide, as did our son!!!!. The locaton was next to the bayfront. The facilities was child friendly and there was a tv in the swimming pool area. Our rooms were well cleaned each day - the cleasners even tidied up our personal belongings in the bathroom. loved the 23rd floor view and pool, spa, display in the lobby. Our parking was handy and it was quiet in the room. youth conv. noisy! and disruptive in the lobby and the elevators but the kids were Christian and all nice. Location, cleanliness, value for money and staff provided excellent service. Our bellhop (I believe his name was Anthony) very friendly, welcomed us to SD and offered helpful suggestions to find our way around the hotel. Amazing location. Right on water close to downtown gaslamp area can walk to in less than 5 minutes. Can walk along water for miles. Beautiful area very safe. (some homeless ppl around but ont bother you). It's such a decent place to be. Among the hotels complex surrounding the Convention, I'd say this is the best place to be. Around 15-20 dollars by taxi from the airport, pretty close to everywhere. The Hotel is conviently located to the Gaslamp District for food and shopping and walking to Seaport Village along the water front. And we were able to bring our dog, a very dog friendly place. I liked everything - the efficiency, the friendliness, the willingness to help and to take responsibility . I have stayed at many hotels over the years - this would be amongst the top few. Vey well located, just 5 min walk from gaslamp quarter. Nice and big rooms. Lovelly swimming pool. Loved it compared to the hilton in san francisco where we had some bad expierience. Close proximity to the conference center and view of the bay. My favorite was walking over every day to conference center and not having to cab. Plus a beautiful view of the bay. Great location, great entrance, I did like the design of the hotel. Despite the pool was not accessible, the hotel have a shuttle to get to the Marriot pool. Great idea!. We had several exchanges with the staff. Everyone was friendly, accomodating, and helpful. A manager actually printed out something for us from his personal computer!. Only minor thing; they should be more transparent about the micro fees and transactions required for pet deposit, parking, and use of the internet in the room. It was not a large deal of money overall, no more than about $150, but it was a little pricier than we expected. The charge was not so much the issue as the surprise. Not that it made the experience worse or anything, was still awesome despite this little detail. There was some waiting time during check in and check out. Obviously, the hotel was quite busy as I could see a lot of guests all the time, so it may help if the hotel reviews its front desk manpower and probably workflow. That there is no wifi in the room is something unusual. THer was nothing to dislike about this hotel. That the people I talked with did not have up to date information. I was told to ask for the cloud shuttle and that shuttle has been out for at least 3years. Took 45 minutes to get on a shuttle and then another 20- 30minutes to get to the hotel. A small inconvenience was that our son's room was not ready for almost 2 hours after check in time. The long distance to walk from one side of the hotel to the other. For instance, we could not get a lift directly up to our room from the one end of the promenade level and we had to go to the lobby first. The walk into Gaslamp Quarter took a little while. for the money--no mini bar, no fridge, no microwave that we have had many times in less expensive hotels. The safe in our room did not work.. Quite expensive. The day bed was heavily smell of dust, housekeeper should clean it better. Absolutely nothing. Nothing. Prices for food and drinks were outrageously expensive. Breakfast buffet was rather expensive ($25/person) and quite limited. If you wish to have a bay view room it's a $20 upgrade fee/night. Parking was $28/ night. No c. Room was small.. the doors opened into each other, was somewhat of a puzzle as to which door to open first to get through (i.e. bathroom door blocked hallway and room door would hit bathroom door). We waited quite a while to be checked in while we saw many people who appeared to be hotel associates just standing behind the counter allowing only one associate to check guests in. Sooooo many people, but to be expected it is a large hotel. Maybe more pool area as it was packed. Some nice alcoves or areas to sit other than in rows????. I had booked a room with a view of the Coronado bridge. Instead we had a view facing north on the bay. It was nice but I was looking forward to seeing the bridge at night. I wish Hilton had free shuttle to and from the airport. Foam toppers for softer mattresses would be lovely, but great pillows and after all that walking each day we slept well. The prices for breakfast, parking and wifi internet are quite high. View out the back is a bit grim overlooking a power station or something. We elected to upgrade to a sea view for $20. Well worth it. Not knowing about the $28/ night self parking and $40/ night valet parking. Room seemed a bit small and not as nice as other Hilton rooms ai have stayed in. Hilton Honors line was slower than normal line. I didn't like the high WiFi costs and the daily parking fee at $28 is way too high. Also, for two straight nights we didn't have towels and had to call for them. The cleaning staff was nice but overall did a very poor job. Parking down in garage, being charged extra for absolutely everything, especially wi fi. Air conditioner not cool enough, sweaty night. Yuck. We arrived approx 415pm for 3pm check-in. There were probably 60-70 people ahead of us to check-in. They did not have clean rooms until around 730pm and then our room reeked like smoke!! After complaining, we did get a great room and loved our time here. They did comp parking as well for the inconvenience. No free wi-fi in public zones and the cost of parking. $40 per day is a little much for Valet parking. Gift Shop items are over priced. Personally i was feeling myself too lonely in this huge hotel. It was for the first time in my life and very unusual for me. So if you feel that huge hotels dominate and depress you - this option's maybe not your choice. Did not allow roll-away bed. Parking is incredibly expensive ($28/night self or $40/night valet). The Wi-Fi is not free. In my opinion this level of hotel can include the Wi-Fi tax in the daily rate. Parking at $28 per night very steep. I had a had time understanding the lady when I checked in. none. I did not like the fact that wifi was not free that you had to pay for it it was free in the lobby and at the starbucks why not in the room put damper on the whole stay. WLAN isn't free No water cooker on the room.
