I love the location and the ambiance, the house reminds me of home because I used to live in this neighborhood when I lived in Brookline in the 60's and 70's so it was like going home. The rooms are tastefully decorated and very clean and the bed's are comfortable with lovely feather pillows. Beautiful older building with mahogany, classy rugs/furniture, and indoor/outdoor porches for relaxation. Staff very friendly and accomodating. Quieter than I expected. Great snacks available all evening, and hot breakfast included.

We travel to Boston at least once a year, and we will definitely book at the Bertram again. Lovely old building, well maintained; clean, very comfortable, very good breakfast, easy access to public transportation, parking on-site, relatively inexpensively. The atmosphere was friendly without being intrusive. I enjoyed having the time in sit in the parlor or on the deck. The breakfasts and snacks were exceptional. A very comfortable and friendly experience. Morning breakfasts were delicious. Easy access to the train to. The whole experience was superb. The breakfast was great. The homey atmosphere. Friendly staff. Common areas. If you stay in room five you have to go down the hall to use the bathroom or toilet. The hall bath is for your own private use but you still have to truck down the public hall way to get there and the grout around the bath was pretty grotty needing replacement or more vigorous cleaning. Nothing larger than full size bed available as we booked last minute- my issue, not the inn's. The mattress was firmer than I prefer, although it was not uncomfortable. Also, the room did not have a workspace. Some rooms have a workspace, so I'll look more carefully at the amenities next time. This is not a real complaint: I was offered a larger room for the first 3 nights, for the same price. It was an excellent recommendation, because their smallest room (6) is really small. I stayed for one night and that was ok for just sleeping. I was there on business and had appointments to keep. Their breakfast hot entrée doesn't always come out on time. If you're a leisure traveler and not too concerned with the clock, no worries. No where to put my luggage and almost no space in the bathroom to put any toilet articles. The room was dark, too. Our room, which was the smallest at the Bertram Inn, was quite small. How small the bathroom was and that I didn't have a place to put my bathroom stuff. Didn't like my first room (mostly the bath facilities), but when I mentioned it to the staff(after I endured two nights) they were very accommodating. It may be difficult for me to convince my wife that we should plan to return sometime because no accommodations were apparent to meet her needs for gluten free food for breakfast. The building is old. bathroom. I have stayed at the Bertram Inn two times before and was very satisfied by the rooms.At my last booking which was 2 months before my arrioval they gave me a room that was not fit to be a room for anyone.It was overpriced and we justy couldnt fit in it .Everytime someone had to go to the bathroom the other would be awakened by the banging of the bathroom door on the bed.I was completely dissapointed.Anyone booking with this inn please do not book room no 6.
